As the January 6th committee continues to stumble around the untruths uttered by Cassidy Hutchinson at yesterday’s not-such-a-bombshell hearing, one of their main litigious targets has decided to drop his proactive lawsuit.
On Wednesday, Hutchinson described January 6th, 2021 from her perspective as an aide to Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadows. Unfortunately, some of her more dramatic testimony appears to have been almost immediately debunked.
Now, just a day later, one of Donald Trump’s former lawyers is dropping a lawsuit that would have blocked the committee from getting a hold of his personal call logs.
John Eastman, the former Trump lawyer who wrote memos arguing then-Vice President Mike Pence could overturn the 2020 election, has dropped his lawsuit that tried to block the House Jan. 6 committee from getting his call logs.
Eastman’s lawyers said in a filing in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on Tuesday night that he brought this lawsuit primarily to protect the content of his communications, many of which are privileged,” but the committee made clear “that they were not seeking the content” of Eastman’s communications, only the call logs from his carrier, Verizon.
The Committee has suggested that Eastman may have been involved in an effort to pressure then-Vice President Mike Pence to reject electors on January 6th.
