A 5-month-old baby who was “seriously injured” at Legoland Windsor Resort in the U.K. last week died Monday, May 6 after going into cardiac arrest, and a woman has been arrested in connection with baby’s death, police said.
Thames Valley Police said Tuesday, May 7 that a 27-year-old woman from Witham, Essex, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of neglecting a child to cause unnecessary injury. The suspect, who was not identified, was released on bail until a hearing on July 26, Knewz.com has learned.
It’s unclear what injury the baby sustained, and how neglect played a role in the injury, with investigating officer Detective Constable Zoe Eele, of the Child Abuse Investigation Unit, only describing it as a “distressing incident.”
“Firstly, our thoughts are with the family of the boy who sadly died in hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest. We are supporting them as best we can at this extremely difficult time,” Eele said in a statement.
The baby was allegedly injured near the Coastguard HQ boat ride around midday, and police are asking anyone who was in line for the ride to come forward with information.
“We are working closely with the team at Legoland Windsor Resort but would like to speak to anyone who may have information about this incident, specifically anyone who was queueing for the Coastguard HQ boat ride between around 11:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.,” Eele said.
“Alternatively, you can provide information anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers,” she said.
“We have made an arrest in relation to this incident and are not looking for anyone else as a suspect,” Eele said. It’s unclear what relationship the suspect has with the baby.
“I would ask for the public to please avoid speculation about the incident and to respect the boy’s family at this deeply upsetting time,” Eele said.
