YELLVILLE, Ark. – A 15 year-old has been taken into custody by Arkansas State Police Special Agents and is being held in connection with the death of a Marion County man.
The boy is being detained under laws applicable to an accused juvenile offender until a decision is made whether to criminally charge the child as an adult or proceed with a juvenile adjudication process.
Sheriff’s deputies in Marion County discovered the body of Daniel W. Stine, 80, at his home southwest of Yellville Monday night about 11:30. Deputies had responded to the home at 2723 Arkansas Highway 235 after receiving a report of an intruder inside the home and gunshots.
“I know some of the Stines and the Vines, and they’re good people, church-going people, and definitely don’t deserve something like that,” said Jerry Campbell, a neighbor. “We’re praying for their family, their loss, and hope they seek justice.”
“It’s making everybody around here a little uncomfortable. It’s something that doesn’t normally happen,” said Campbell. “The Marion County Sheriffs’ office doesn’t let out a lot about what’s going on, but we’re all concerned about what’s been going on here lately.”
The sheriff’s department contacted the Arkansas State Police requesting the department’s Criminal Investigation Division investigate Stine’s death. The investigation is continuing.
