Rep. RINO Liz Cheney (R-WY) and former President Donald Trump are bitter political enemies, and to prove just how much he wants to oust her from her Wyoming seat, Trump made a bold move over the weekend.
According to the Washington Examiner, Trump held one of his famous rallies in Cheney’s home state on Saturday evening in an effort to very publicly endorse candidate Harriet Hageman, Cheney’s GOP primary competitor.
The rally comes as Cheney, who Trump routinely calls a RINO (Republican In Name Only), struggles to gain the support from Wyoming Republicans that she once had.
Trump’s massive base of support in Wyoming pulled away from Cheney after she attacked Trump following the Jan. 6 Capitol protests, and was one of a small number of RINO Republicans who voted in favor of impeaching him as a result.
“She has gone crazy”
The former president, unsurprisingly, held nothing back as he excoriated Cheney, reminding Wyoming Republicans why she’s no longer a friend of the non-establishment GOP.
“In many ways, worse than the general Democrats are the backstabbing, RINO Republicans and there is no RINO in America who has thrown in their lot with the radical left more than Liz Cheney,” Trump said. “She has gone crazy.”
“Wyoming deserves a congresswoman who stands up for you and your values. Not one who spends all of her time, going after your president in the most vicious way possible and loving vicious, bloody nonsensical wars.”
Notably, Trump’s Wyoming rally, which drew thousands, was held just 48 hours after Cheney filed for reelection.
Hageman speaks
The Trump-endorsed Hageman is rapidly gaining ground in Wyoming, and Politico reported that Cheney, who was once popular in the state, is absolutely tanking. The Wyoming lawmaker is now down a staggering 30 points, with the left-leaning outlet describing Cheney as now facing “political peril.”
“I have fought for Wyoming, and I will fight for you in Washington, D.C., and I will be taking that fight to D.C. as soon as I defeat Liz Cheney,” Hageman said as she stood alongside Trump at the rally on Saturday.
“I am going to reclaim Wyoming’s lone congressional seat from the Virginian who currently holds it.”
Only time will tell if Hageman manages to pull out a victory, but with Trump’s backing and Cheney becoming even more unpopular with her own constituents, she’s likely to chalk up a relatively easy win.
