White House National Security Communications Adviser John Kirby recently revealed some of the behind-the-scenes negotiations that are taking place between the Biden administration and Hamas terrorists.Â
Kirby did so during an interview Friday on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.Â
There, Kirby discussed an array of foreign affairs issues, including the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.
This is the conflict that has resulted from October 7, 2023, terrorist attack that Hamas carried out on the Israeli people.
Kirby says negotiations are getting nowhere
Based on what Kirby had to say during his MSNBC appearance, it would appear that the White House is failing in its negotiations with Hamas terrorists.
“I wish I had progress to tell you about this morning. I don’t. There was a very good proposal laid at the feet of Hamas, just a couple of weeks ago, after Bill Burns, our CIA Director, negotiated it in Cairo. They have not taken that proposal up. In fact, they’ve indicated that they won’t,” Kirby said.
The National Security Adviser went on to address Hamas’ recent public statement, in which it said that it would only release hostages if an independent state gets established for the Palestinian people.
“Look, there’s not going to be an independent Palestinian state with Hamas in control of Gaza, it can’t happen,” Kirby said.
He added, “If they really cared about the Palestinian people, if they really cared about an independent state, they’d lay down their arms, they’d step aside, they’d release those hostages, and let us get on with the business of working with Israel and the Palestinian Authority for a revitalized Palestinian Authority that could actually manage and meets the — meet the aspirations of the Palestinian people.”
The latest
The hostages referred to by Kirby are the ones that Hamas took in that October 7, 2023, terrorist attack. Hamas is believed to still have about 133 hostages, including five U.S. nationals.
CBS News reports:
Hamas released new undated video footage on Saturday of two men— including an American citizen — held hostage in Gaza. The video shows the two men alive and was released on the Palestinian militant group’s social media channel, which is regularly used by the group to publish propaganda videos.
The hostages in the video have been identified, and it has been confirmed that they are two individuals whom Hamas took during the Oct. 7 terrorist attack.
Details about the video, though, remain unclear.
“[T]he FBI is reviewing the proof of life propaganda video released by Hamas,” CBS reports.
