- Newsmax hosts have criticized the Biden administration’s vaccine mandate for large employers.
- But the outlet said in a company-wide email it would be complying, Mediate reported.
- After the news broke, Newsmax host Steve Cortes said he “will not comply” with any mandate.
Newsmax, a conservative cable-news network, will require its employees to get vaccinated or undergo weekly COVID-19 testing starting January 4, despite hosts criticizing vaccine mandates. The mandate was announced in an email obtained by Mediate, citing the Biden administration’s rule for companies with 100 employees or more.
Fox News requires employees to provide vaccination status
The CEO of Fox News has issued a memo to the staff, providing updates to the COVID-19 protocol. One of the updates requires employees to disclose their vaccination status. In June, the news outlet had encouraged fully vaccinated staff to include their vaccination status in Workday. The memo stated that employees who were vaccinated but had not provided the information would be considered unvaccinated under company policies.
In the recent memo obtained by AdWeek, Suzanne Scott informed employees that they must input their vaccination status by the end of the day. This policy applies to both on-site and remote workers. Additionally, select employees in the New York offices will be required to undergo weekly COVID-19 testing, regardless of their vaccination status. The memo also outlined protocols for masking and COVID-19 screening.
Scott emphasized that these measures were implemented due to the spread of the delta variant and the increasing number of COVID-19 cases. When questioned about the internal memo, a spokesperson for Fox News referred to the AdWeek story.

This memo coincides with the efforts of businesses and cities to safely reopen or remain open without facing shutdowns. The rise of the variant, particularly in unvaccinated communities, has led to significant surges in new COVID-19 cases. Health officials anticipate that the number of daily cases could reach or exceed 200,000 in the coming weeks.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 70 percent of individuals aged 12 years and older have received partial vaccination, while roughly 60 percent are fully vaccinated.
