A Texas attorney met a tragic end when he was fatally shot by an enraged McDonald’s customer during an altercation sparked by the customer’s dissatisfaction with his order.
Jeffrey Limmer, 46, intervened as the customer began berating McDonald’s staff at the branch located on 8147 Katy Freeway in Houston.
The incident occurred on Saturday around 6 pm, the Daily Mail reported.
Witnesses attest that Limmer attempted to defuse the situation before it escalated. However, the confrontation spilled outside the restaurant, where the assailant retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and fired two shots at Limmer.
The male shooter then fled the scene in a blue Ford pickup truck dating back to the early 2000s. The identity of the gunman currently remains unknown.
Limmer’s acquaintance, Greg Monteverde, recounted the events in an interview with Fox26, stating, “Utilizing cuss words and other profanities, Jeff stepped in to try and de-escalate the situation and calm him down.”
“I thought it was brave. I respect it,” he continued. “I think a lot of us knew Jeff to be that type of individual. In school, he would invite somebody who wasn’t the most popular student to a party or things like that.’ He added, ‘He’s in Heaven. He’s looking down on all of us saying it’s going to be OK.’”
Detectives informed ABC7 that a McDonald’s patron became irate over his order and began berating the employees.
Limmer intervened in an attempt to diffuse the situation, diverting the customer’s attention away from the staff. However, the altercation escalated into a physical confrontation outside the premises.
Detectives informed the outlet that a customer at McDonald’s became enraged with his order and began shouting at employees. Limmer intervened, attempting to pacify the customer and redirecting his attention away from the staff.
Limmer allegedly forcefully pushed an irate customer to the ground before the latter hastily retreated to his vehicle, per detectives.
The Houston Police Department promptly responded to reports of a shooting at the McDonald’s around 6 pm on Saturday.
The Texas attorney then sought refuge inside the McDonald’s establishment, where staff promptly summoned paramedics.
Jennifer Thomas, Limmer’s sister, shared that her brother’s intervention wasn’t surprising, stating, “He’s always wanted to fight for the little guy and do the right thing.”
Thomas revealed that Limmer resided in close proximity to the McDonald’s establishment, frequenting it regularly. She mentioned that he probably went to the McDonald’s on Saturday evening to catch up on some work, per Daily Mail.
Limmer, employed as an attorney at the local law firm Lewis Brisbois, pursued his education at the University of Texas before earning his law degree from the South Texas College of Law.
Thomas portrayed Limmer as the kind of individual who defuses tense situations with ease, remarking, “Knowing Jeff, he’s the one who always says, ‘Calm down. It’s not that big of a deal,’ and diverts the situation.”
She depicted Limmer as a “good Samaritan who is trying to do the right thing and not letting those employees at McDonald’s go through that.”
