The Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus on Wednesday blasted Republicans for criticizing House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi in congressional elections, calling such attacks “sexist.”
Rep. Joe Crowley (D., N.Y.) was asked by a reporter during the weekly House Democratic press briefing about the strong performance by Conor Lamb in the Pennsylvania 18th Congressional District special election.
“This election was not about Nancy Pelosi,” the New York Democrat insisted. “Conor Lamb really localized the issue.”
During the lead up to Tuesday’s election, Republicans compared Lamb to Pelosi, with one political action committee releasing an ad that slammed the Democratic candidate for making similar comments to Pelosi’s “crumbs” remarks on tax reform. Lamb, meanwhile, vocally distanced himself from Pelosi and pledged not to support her leadership.
“The attempt to nationalize it by the Republicans– I think they need to get a new gamebook,” Crowley continued on Wednesday. “The attempts to use Nancy Pelosi, it’s failing them at this point.”
“And I think quite frankly it’s sexist,” he said. “So they need to move on from that.”
