Labor Day gas prices hit five-year low

President Donald Trump has just delivered on yet another one of his campaign promises.

This time, according to Fox Business, Trump managed to get gas prices down to a five-year low just in time for Labor Day weekend.

The details:

According to Fox, gas prices are now at $3.15 per gallon.

Per the outlet:

GasBuddy projects the national average at $3.15 a gallon — the cheapest holiday weekend at the pump since 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic brought global travel to a halt . . . In 2024, gas prices stood at $3.29 per gallon, and the year prior reached $3.77.

This $3.15 figure, in fact, is the lowest it’s been since 2020, when gas was at $2.22 per gallon.

It is, perhaps, no coincidence that gas prices were down throughout Trump’s first term, while they increased during former President Joe Biden’s term.

Now, it would appear that, thanks to the actions taken by Trump, the gas prices are going back down. We’ll have to see if he can get them down to where they were during his first term.

Trump and White House celebrate

Both President Trump and the White House are celebrating the good news.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt released a statement, saying:

Thanks to President Trump fully unleashing American energy dominance, gas prices this summer are at five-year lows and families are saving significant money at the pump. President Trump ended Joe Biden’s Green New Scam policies and is making America affordable again.

Secretary of Energy Chris Wright highlighted the fact that Trump, here, is delivering on another campaign promise.

Wright said:

President Trump campaigned on lowering costs and this Labor Day Weekend, the American people will see the results firsthand at the gas pump — with the lowest gas prices in years. His approach is simple and commonsense: more American energy means lower costs, more jobs, and more prosperity.

Trump released a statement of his own as well. He wrote:

Prices are “WAY DOWN” in the USA, with virtually no inflation. With the exception of ridiculous, corrupt politician approved “Windmills,” which are killing every State and Country that uses them, Energy prices are falling,“big time.” Gasoline is at many year lows. All of this despite magnificent Tariffs, which are bringing in Trillions of Dollars from Countries that took total advantage of us, for decades, and are making America STRONG and RESPECTED AGAIN!!!
