President Donald Trump is signing an executive order that will require identification from voters in future federal elections.
Breitbart News reports that Trump announced the executive order over Labor Day weekend.
This should come as no surprise to anyone, considering that Trump has repeatedly pushed for voter identification requirements and considering that Trump has even campaigned on the issue.
Voter I.D. Must Be Part of Every Single Vote. NO EXCEPTIONS! I Will Be Doing An Executive Order To That End!!! Also, No Mail-In Voting, Except For Those That Are Very Ill, And The Far Away Military. USE PAPER BALLOTS ONLY!!! President DJT

“No exceptions”
Trump announced the move in a message that he posted to social media over Labor Day weekend.
“Voter I.D. Must Be Part of Every Single Vote. NO EXCEPTIONS! I Will Be Doing An Executive Order To That End!!!” the president wrote.
He added, “Also, No Mail-In Voting, Except For Those That Are Very Ill, And The Far Away Military. USE PAPER BALLOTS ONLY!!! President DJT.”
At the time of this writing, President Trump has still not signed the executive order, so it is unclear precisely what it is going to say.
We, however, could take a guess based on Trump’s past comments on the subject.
More details
Breitbart notes that election integrity has been a top issue for Trump, particularly since the 2020 presidential election.
Per the outlet:
Election integrity has long been an issue on the president’s mind. In December 2022, he told Breitbart News that Republicans must fight Democrats on mail voting and ballot harvesting like the Democrats do. At the time, he recognized that Republicans were forced to live with the system until they could get back into power and make changes.
The Washington Examiner reports that, while many states do require voter identification, many other states do not.
The outlet writes:
According to Ballotpedia, 36 states currently require voters to show identification before casting a ballot, though the type of ID can vary. For example, 25 of those states require photo ID, while the other 11 do not. The 14 remaining states, as well as Washington, D.C., do not require voters to show any form of identification before voting.
We’ll have to wait and see what Trump’s executive order contains. The move, however, is sure to receive pushback from Democrats, who, for some reason, do not seem to want such things as voter identification requirements.
