Think about it.  President Trump could instruct the USTR (Jamieson Greer) to dissolve all existing U.S. trade agreements within 90-days, due to the national debt emergency.  A legally authorized zero-trade position.

Notice that no foreign nation is challenging these tariffs as applied.  The legal challenges are all coming from inside the U.S.A, as multinational corporations fight to retain the status quo.

Trump on Thursday night notified Congress of his request to cancel the funds, which had been tied up in a court case until earlier in the day.

A pocket rescission is a request that’s presented to Congress so late in the fiscal year — which ends Sept. 30 — that it takes effect regardless of whether Congress approves.

The clawback includes $3.2 billion in United States Agency for International Development (USAID) development assistance, $322 million from the USAID-State Department Democracy Fund, $521 million in State Department contributions to international organizations, $393 million in State Department contributions to peacekeeping activities and $445 million in separately budgeted peacekeeping aid.

The spending had been destined for a wide variety of nonprofits and foreign governments and was paused earlier this year by the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and then stuck in legal limbo due to an ensuing lawsuit filed by the Global Health Council.

That’s right. The   funding are being clawed back by the administration in a rare maneuver that hasn’t been utilized in almost half a century.

  • Thompson, listed as an “Absconder” (offender number 0898340) on the department’s official site, is wanted for violating probation terms. North Carolina authorities are urging anyone with knowledge of her whereabouts to call their tip line at 1-888-646-0024.
  • Where is Nikia Monique Thompson hiding? All indications, including from Letitia James herself, are that Thompson is hiding out at Letitia’s “mortgage fraud” home in Norfolk, Virgina.
  • This means that Letitia James herself could be charged with harboring a fugitive. And, because it involves interstate flight, James could be subject to federal harboring law which carries up to 5 years in prison.
  • As detailed on Sam Antar’s White Collar Fraud website, Letitia James co-signed for a mortgage for a property located at 604 Sterling Street in Norfolk, Virginia, alongside her niece, Shamice Thompson-Hairston in August 2023.
  • Despite being a permanent resident of Brooklyn and New York State Attorney General, as part of this transaction, James executed a notarized Power of Attorney (POA) which included a sworn declaration stating, “I hereby declare that I intend to occupy this property as my principal residence.”
  •  Thompson’s Facebook page indicates that she is living comfortably in Jame’s Norfolk, Virginia in the home. What does Virginia law say about harboring someone wanted from another state for probation absconding?
  • Under VA Code § 18.2-472, if someone escapes from custody and you harbor them, you can be charged. Harboring in Virginia could make you an accessory after the fact. The penalty for Letitia James would qualify as a Class 1 misdemeanor, with a punishment of up to 12 months jail and a $2,500 fine.
  • Even more serious, because Nikia Monique Thompson’s case involves interstate flight, under 18 U.S.C. § 1073 (Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution or Confinement), harboring someone who fled across state lines to avoid justice could trigger federal charges against Letitia James. Federal harboring law carries up to 5 years in prison.
