Former President Bill Clinton is raising fresh questions about his health after being spotted in the Hamptons with a portable defibrillator, just two months after a public stumble in New York City.
Images captured Thursday show Clinton and his wife, Hillary, boarding a private plane while carrying what appears to be a Propaq MD Air Medical Bag, a transport monitor and defibrillator used in emergencies.
Clinton, wearing a blue jacket and tan hat, was escorted by security, while Hillary dressed in a black sweatshirt over a blue outfit. The UK’s Daily Mail first reported the sighting.
“The sighting immediately reignited concerns about the ex-president’s fragile condition, given his long history of heart trouble,” the New York Post noted.
Clinton, 79, has battled major health issues for more than two decades, including a quadruple bypass, stent placements, and multiple hospitalizations.
In 2004, three years after leaving the White House, he underwent emergency bypass surgery to clear near-complete arterial blockages, narrowly avoiding a heart attack, per the Conservative Brief.
The following year, he was hospitalized for surgery to repair a collapsed lung, attributed to scar tissue from the bypass.
In 2009, Clinton was rushed to a New York hospital with chest pains, where doctors inserted two stents to open clogged arteries.
He subsequently adopted a mostly vegan diet, lost weight, and credited the lifestyle change with giving him a “second chance.”
His health struggles continued with a 2021 hospitalization in California for a urological infection that developed into sepsis, requiring IV antibiotics.
Last December, Clinton spent Christmas Eve at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital with a fever but was discharged the next day. He was also seen stumbling on a New York City sidewalk during a book tour stop with Hillary, gripping a pole for support as his left leg buckled.
The recent defibrillator sighting is likely to fuel speculation about whether Clinton’s condition is worsening.
Portable defibrillators monitor patients at high risk of cardiac arrest and deliver emergency shocks if needed. While tabloids have speculated about conditions like Parkinson’s, no credible reports have confirmed any new diagnosis, and Clinton’s aides have only addressed his known cardiac and infection-related issues.
The Clintons have remained politically visible this summer.
The House Oversight Committee subpoenaed both Bill and Hillary as part of its investigation into the government’s handling of Jeffrey Epstein.
Neither has been accused of wrongdoing, though both are scheduled to testify this fall – Hillary on October 9, Bill on October 14. In his 2024 memoir, Clinton admitted flying on Epstein’s jet but denied knowledge of Epstein’s crimes.
At 79, Bill Clinton is the third-oldest living president, behind 82-year-old Joe Biden and George W. Bush, who is seven weeks older. The defibrillator sighting adds to growing public concern about his health as he remains active in political and social circles.
