This is rich, coming from Obama, who literally cut his teeth on manipulating maps for his own benefit.

The roots of this strategy trace back to Barack Obama’s early political career. In 1996, during his first run for the Illinois State Senate, Obama showed his willingness to play hardball. He didn’t just defeat his opponent-he eliminated her. By challenging the nominating petitions of his political mentor, Alice Palmer, Obama forced her off the ballot, effectively ending her career. This ruthless move set the stage for his rise.

A few years later, as Illinois Democrats gerrymandered the state to flip the Senate to a Democratic majority, Obama personally helped redraw his own district. He extended it northward to include some of Chicago’s wealthiest citizens, crafting a powerful financial and political base that propelled him to the U.S. Senate.

The National Democratic Redistricting Committee: A Machine for Power

Fast forward to 2016, when Barack Obama and Holder turned their sights on national redistricting. The National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), chaired by Holder-Obama’s self-described “wing man,” emerged as the spearhead of this effort. The NDRC, partnered with Organizing for Action (the rebranded Obama for America, later renamed All On The Line), was formed with a singular focus.

According to Politico, its mission was to “coordinate campaign strategy, direct fundraising, organize ballot initiatives, and put together legal challenges to state redistricting maps.”

The NDRC’s 2017 IRS filing lays it bare: its goal is “to build a comprehensive plan to favorably position Democrats for the redistricting process through 2022.”

Not to level the playing field, but to stack the deck.

Barack Obama himself made no secret of his obsession with redistricting. In 2019, Vanity Fair quoted him declaring, “I’m making redistricting a top priority, because there is no issue it doesn’t touch.”

By targeting key elections, funneling money into strategic races, and leveraging legal challenges, Obama and Holder’s NDRC aim to reshape America’s electoral map to entrench Democratic power.
