A disturbing new twist has surfaced in the tragic murder-suicide that rocked Madbury, New Hampshire earlier this month. Authorities say 34-year-old Emily Long, who killed her husband, two of their children, and then herself, allegedly stole more than $660,000 from her employer in the months leading up to the tragedy.
On August 18, police discovered Emily dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound alongside her husband, Ryan Long, 48, and their two young children — Parker, 8, and Ryan, 6 — who had also been shot and killed. The couple’s toddler was found unharmed inside the home.
Before the shocking events, Emily had opened up about her struggles on TikTok, frequently posting about depression and her husband’s recent brain cancer diagnosis. Her account bio referred to her as a “Brain Cancer Wife,” giving followers a glimpse into the immense pressure the family was facing.
Now, Derek Fisher, the owner of Wing-Itz, the restaurant chain where Emily worked, claims she had been embezzling company funds for over two years. “We noticed there were a lot of handwritten checks being deposited into her bank account,” Fisher told WCVB. After an accountant uncovered the alleged scheme, Fisher contacted authorities. “There was over $660,000 taken,” he revealed.
Fisher said he had been sympathetic to Emily’s situation given her husband’s health struggles and initially tried to be patient. But after the devastating murder-suicide, his focus has shifted entirely to the couple’s surviving toddler. “Anything that’s left should go to that child,” Fisher said. “He deserves all of it. It’s not fair to him. He didn’t make this happen, and he didn’t deserve this.”
Despite these revelations, the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office has urged the public not to speculate on what motivated the killings. “While investigators are becoming aware of various concerns and issues ongoing in the household at the time, people should avoid speculating that this event was caused by a single reason or stressor,” the office said.
