The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has allocated more than $15 million this year to cover Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign expenses, creating a significant financial gap between the party and its Republican counterparts.
The substantial payments have left the DNC with just $15 million in available funds at the end of July, according to an Axios report.
This figure stands in stark contrast to the Republican National Committee’s $80 million cash reserves.
The financial disparity places Democrats at a $65 million disadvantage compared to Republicans as both parties prepare for the crucial 2026 midterm elections.
The gap represents a major challenge for Democratic fundraising efforts moving forward.
Specific expenditures covered by the DNC include a $548,050 payment to a charter flight company for campaign travel expenses.
The party also allocated more than $2 million to Assembly House LLC, a media production firm that handled campaign advertising.
Legal expenses accounted for an additional $237,201 payment to the law firm Covington & Burling.
These payments represent just a portion of the overall debt obligations transferred to the DNC, per Axios.
Harris’ presidential campaign expenditures reached an unprecedented $1.5 billion over a 15-week period.
Despite this massive spending, the campaign failed to secure victory in any of the seven swing states during the general election against President Donald Trump.
The campaign’s financial performance has generated frustration among Democratic donors, who have expressed reluctance to contribute additional funds to the DNC.
Former Harris campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon addressed the financial collaboration between the vice president and the party.
“The vice president has collaborated closely with the DNC to manage campaign expenses and expand our base of grassroots donors. She remains fully committed to strengthening the party and helping return Democrats to power,” O’Malley Dillon told Axios.
Harris campaign chief financial officer Patrick Stauffer addressed the financial status in November.
“As of Election Day, there were no outstanding debts or bills overdue, and there will be no debt on either the DNC or [the Harris for President committee] report for post general report,” Stauffer told reporters.
Harris has been facing backlash as of late for launching a global book tour to promote her memoir about her failed 2024 presidential campaign.
Resist the Mainstream reported last week that Harris announced a 15-city tour beginning Sept. 24, a day after the release of her book “107 Days.”
The memoir promises a “behind-the-scenes” look at what Harris calls “the shortest presidential campaign in modern history.”
The announcement included a short montage of Harris smiling on the campaign trail. S
Social media users quickly mocked the post as tone-deaf given her crushing loss to Trump.
Harris also made headlines at the end of July when she announced she will not seek the governorship of California, ending months of speculation about her political future.
“In recent months, I have given serious thought to asking the people of California for the privilege to serve as their Governor,” Harris wrote.
“I love this state, its people, and its promise. It is my home. But after deep reflection, I’ve decided that I will not run for Governor in this election.”
