Donald Trump’s deployment of the National Guard to Washington, D.C. may not be doing much to combat crime, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t getting results. Specifically, National Guard members are literally cleaning up the city in the form of picking up garbage and spreading mulch in city parks.
As Jimmy points out, the move follows deep staffing cuts to the National Park Service in DC, which went from 200 workers to just 20 under Trump’s budget decisions. This repurposing of soldiers raises questions about cost, labor rights, and the militarization of basic civic work.
