The Northwest Nonsense
Imagine the twisted logic gushing out of City Hall this morning as Mayor Keith Wilson scrambles to keep 350-million federal dollars flowing to Portland.
The city operates under Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
DEI requires the city actively discriminate in hiring and service to benefit some people based on their gender, race and sexuality.
Only now that one-third of a billion federal dollars are at risk of getting cut off as President Donald Trump insists…get this…the city can’t discriminate and must provide service to all without regard to race, sex and gender.
Seems to me there’s a lot of federal law and a Constitution that says exactly that.
So, what’s Mayor Wilson to do?
Lie like a rug.
Wilson announced yesterday fundamental changes to 75 different programs that currently award racial or sexual preferences…while simultaneously claiming he’s not.
In simple terms, the Mayor plans to lie
But, hey, ain’t lying a critical skill for most politicians?
Mayor Wilson announced he will “adjust” programs to keep the MONEY coming while not eliminating DEI.
City programs that now give preference based on sexuality or race will be adjusted so that they are not, OFFICIALLY, giving any preference and are available to all.
I can just imagine Mayor Wilson channeling Monty Python in his next press conference explaining his duplicity…”wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more, say no more,” only not nearly as funny.
That’s the Rose City Rap. Join me at noon on KXL for 4 hours of Honestly provocative talk. I’m Lars Larson
