An evil maniac went to a Virginia conservative councilman’s workplace with a 5-gallon gasoline can, forced his way in, and doused him… then horrifically set him on fire outside his office as he tried to escape.
GOP councilman set on fire
Republican Danville City Councilman J. Lee Vogler, 38, was working at Showcase Magazine on Wednesday when, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a man named Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes, 29, barged into his office. Reports say the two knew each other and this was a personal grudge, but it’s hard not to think it could have been political as well, considering all the incitement from the Left these days.
Hayes confronted Vogler before pouring gas over his head, according to police, as reported by the New York Post. His boss, the magazine’s owner and publisher, Andrews Brooks, witnessed the ghastly attack.
When Vogler ran for his life out of the front of the building, Hayes followed and set him ablaze, according to Brooks.

The GOP councilman identified his attacker before he was airlifted to the burn center at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital, where, according to his boss, he is “awake and talking.” There is no further information on the extent of his injuries, and his condition is unknown, but he reportedly suffered “serious burn injuries.”

Unhinged suspect arrested
Shotsie fled the scene, but witnesses provided the police with an excellent description of him and the car he took off in. He was taken into custody at a traffic stop. The attacker was stopped just blocks away and was taken into custody without incident.
The Danville Police Department is claiming the two knew each other and that this stemmed from a personal matter, not politics. Considering the situation, that claim seems to have been made very quickly.

Charges against Hayes have not been released yet due to the ongoing investigation. You can bet one of them will be attempted murder.
Vogler’s boss is in disbelief
Danville’s Vice Mayor, James Buckner, confirmed that it was a targeted attack against Vogler at Showcase Magazine on the 700 block of Main Street, according to ABC13.
Vogler’s boss described the monstrous attack as both terrifying and unacceptable, which is an understatement. It was a heinous attempted murder.

“This type of senseless act of violence has to stop,” he declared, according to the Daily Mail. “You do not have the right as a human being to get upset with someone enough to lash out and attempt to harm them in any way, much less this way.”
“Our hearts and prayers are with him,” he added. “We don’t really know what to say.”
“Our door is locked,” Brooks told the Associated Press. “They forced their way into the office and went to Lee. The next thing, Lee is running through the office, covered in gasoline, yelling for our officemate to call 911. The guy chased him outside and set him on fire.
“There is no justification for lashing out,” he asserted. “There is no amount of pain you can be under that can justify you inflicting violence on others.”.
Young Republican made history
Vogler made history in Virginia when he was elected in May 2012 at the age of 24… the youngest person to ever hold that position. He has served 12 years and is in his fourth term as a councilman.
“I have always been driven by a steadfast commitment to upholding our conservative way of life, championing individual liberty, and promoting limited government. We need leaders in Richmond with the experience of creating good-paying jobs for our community and defending our Southside way of life. I am proud of my record, and I look forward to getting to Richmond and continuing to serve our community and our commonwealth,” Vogler previously stated.

He has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Virginia Commonwealth University, which he was awarded in 2010, and is a Managing Partner at Andrew Brooks Media Group. The company owns Showcase Magazine, branded merchandise, and a music publishing company.
The young Republican is married with two children.

According to the Daily Mail, the suspect’s wife, Mary-Alice Buck-Hayes, filed for divorce just two weeks prior to the attack.
A community in shock
“We are deeply shocked and saddened by this act of violence,” Showcase Media wrote in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Lee and his family as he receives medical care. The Showcase Magazine team is fully cooperating with law enforcement as they continue their investigation.”

Things are getting more and more volatile, and being a conservative Republican is dangerous these days. Whether the attack was personal, political, or both, it’s one more indicator that the nation is sitting on a powder keg waiting for a spark to explode.
