House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries will meet with Texas Democrats on Wednesday amid a redistricting fight with Republicans.
Jeffries’ office told POLITICO about the meeting on Tuesday, as President Trump has urged lawmakers to redraw Texas’ congressional map to favor Republicans. The state usually redraws its congressional maps every 10 years in accordance with the census.
Earlier this month, Trump said that he hopes redistricting would give the GOP a few more House seats, helping them hold onto the slim majority in the November 2026 midterm elections.
“There could be some other states. We’re going to get another three, or four or five in addition. Texas would be the biggest one,” Trump said. “Just a simple redrawing we pick up five seats.”
