In the latest episode of political genius, Republican Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana has decided that the nation’s answer to mass shootings isn’t more gun laws, but idiot control. He made these remarks after the deadly shootings in New York City on Monday and the calls by Democrats for more gun control.
Talking to Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Kennedy said, “We’ve got hundreds of gun control laws, Sean. Maybe thousands.” He added, “We don’t need more gun control. We need more idiot control.”
Kennedy, known for his off-the-cuff quips, sharp turns of phrase, and a folksy brand of sarcasm, is sometimes the only truth-teller in the crowd. In fact, he’s delivered so many memorable interviews and hearing takedowns that there are “best of” compilations dedicated to him on YouTube.
Kennedy admitted he hasn’t quite figured out how to define or implement “idiot control.” But hey, at least he’s telling us what the problem is – even if he has no plan to fix it.
One assumes future legislation might include mandatory brain-cell vaccinations or perhaps a national IQ screening – something that Democrats would never be able to pass.
Until someone figures out how to outlaw stupidity, we’ll keep watching politicians chase their tails while cities descend into chaos. Kennedy may not have a blueprint for idiot control yet, but at least he’s aiming at the right target – unlike the Democrats trying to legislate their way out of lunacy with one more gun ban that criminals will ignore anyway.
