Armed terrorists stormed a courthouse in Zahedan, Sistan and Baluchestan province, on Saturday, killing six people, including a woman and a one-year-old child.
Twenty-two others were injured in the attack, which was claimed by the so-called Jaish al-Adl terrorist group.
Iranian security forces killed three assailants during the ensuing clashes.
Three members of the courthouse security team were killed defending the building.
Security and law enforcement personnel remain deployed around and within the courthouse.
Brigadier General Alireza Daliri, Deputy Commander of Law Enforcement in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, stated during a press conference that the terrorists were affiliated with the Israeli regime.
“At 8:30 this morning, a terrorist cell affiliated with the Zionist regime attempted to infiltrate the Sistan and Baluchestan Judiciary building in the city of Zahedan, disguising themselves as ordinary citizens seeking legal services,” he said.
Daliri noted that thanks to the vigilance and swift action of the security forces present at the scene, the attempt was thwarted.
“Unfortunately, during the attack, one of the terrorists managed to throw a grenade inside the judiciary building before being killed. The explosion resulted in the martyrdom of several civilians who were present at the scene, including a one-year-old infant and a woman.”
Reports indicated that the mother of the infant child survived the attack, but suffered serious wounds.
“In the ensuing clash, one of the terrorists was neutralized on the spot,” Daliri said, adding that the remaining members of the terrorist cell were eliminated later and the entire terrorist team was dismantled.
In April, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Forces delivered a blow to the Jaish al-Adl terrorist group during an anti-terrorism military operation in Sistan and Baluchestan province, killing a ringleader of the group.
Sistan and Baluchestan province, which borders Pakistan, has witnessed several terrorist attacks targeting both civilians and security forces over the past years.
Terrorist groups carrying out attacks against Iranian interests in the southeastern and southwestern parts of the country are believed to be linked to foreign spy agencies.
On October 26 last year, ten members of Iran’s law enforcement forces were killed in a terrorist attack in the Gohar Kuh district of Taftan County in the province.
The so-called Jaish al-Adl terrorist group claimed responsibility for the assault, which was one of the deadliest in the province in recent months.
The group has carried out numerous terrorist attacks in Iran, primarily in Sistan and Baluchestan. Its tactics include the abduction of border guards as well as targeting civilians and police stations within the province to incite chaos and disorder.
