Gun manufacturers in the United States no longer have to worry about a case recently brought against them by the Mexican government.
The Mexican government was going after the weapon makers for gun violence in its country due to the manner in which weapons like the AR-15 are marketed.
The funny thing about this case is that while the Supreme Court rejected the matter, in the process, it may have also handed gun advocates a major win against the Democratic Party and its quest to have these guns banned.
Devastating ruling
I fully expected the high court to rule against Mexico, but I was not expecting the liberal justices to be completely on board.
At the center of the filing was the notion that gun manufacturers are to blame due to the marketing strategies they use for the AR-15 and similar guns.
Dems have taken to calling these “assault weapons,” but I think we can make the argument that every weapon is an assault weapon.
They have also stated these are military weapons, despite the fact that the military does not use AR-15s in combat.
To those points, when Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) was alive, she tried to have them banned, stating, “To be clear, this bill saves lives. When it was in place from 1994-2004, gun massacres declined by 37% compared with the decade before. After the ban expired, the number of massacres rose by 183%.”
She added, “We’re now seeing a rise in domestic terrorism, and military-style assault weapons are increasingly becoming the guns of choice for these dangerous groups.”
Then Joe Biden did it again as president, stating, “An AR-15 was used in the shooting of Donald Trump, just as other assault weapons were used to kill so many others, including children.”
Biden continued, “It’s time to outlaw them. I did it once and I will do it again.”
Along comes Justice Elena Kagan, who just blew that argument away in the majority opinion in the aforementioned case brought by the Mexican government, stating, “Mexico’s allegations about the manufacturers’ ‘design and marketing decisions’ add nothing of consequence. As noted above, Mexico here focuses on the manufacturers’ production of ‘military style’ assault weapons, among which it includes AR–15 rifles, AK–47 rifles, and .50 caliber sniper rifles.”
The opinion continued, “But those products are both widely legal and bought by many ordinary consumers. … The manufacturers cannot be charged with assisting in criminal acts just because Mexican cartel members like those guns too.”
That ruling should be the focus of every GOP response the next time Democrats decide they want to try to ban AR-15s from law-abiding citizens.
