(NewsNation) — Convicted killer and rapist Grant Hardin who escaped prison May 25 has been apprehended, the Stone County, Arkansas Sheriff’s office said.
The 56-year-old Hardin, a former police chief who was serving decades in prison for murder and sexual assault, was able to walk out of a medium-security prison while disguised as a correctional officer.
A special special operations tactical unit of U.S. Customs and Border Protection was part of the manhunt and helped apprehend Hardin, who is dubbed the “Devil in the Ozarks.”
A Board of Correction member tells NewsNation Hardin was captured about a mile from the unit in the woods.
The manhunt for Hardin took place through the rugged terrain of the Ozarks, which includes forests, waterways, and caves. Authorities used bloodhounds, drones and horses.
