The response to the COVID-19 pandemic will go down as the largest US government misadventure in history with billions of taxpayer dollars lost in an orgy of government contracts, none of which provided funding to the small band of doctors who actually managed the crisis treating as many patients as they could and promulgating their protocols to others. Keeping Americans out of the hospital and alive was the primary goal, not contact tracing, stopping the spread, or more ventilators.
Multiple federal agencies were involved in the US COVID-19 pandemic response, awarding contracts to many companies. It’s important to note that the total number of companies and contracts is likely higher than what can be presented here as data collection and reporting on contracts in the federal procurement database faced limitations.
