Famed New Jersey Democrat Senator Corey Booker (D-NJ) has a way of staying in the news, and this week is no exception.
Booker announced that he is now engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Alexis Lewis, in a post on Instagram, turning his girlfriend into a fiancée, as The New York Post reported.
The former presidential candidate recently made national news for his record-breaking Senate speech aimed at President Donald Trump and his administration.
However, this news showed a much more positive Booker in five photos, smiling broadly on the beach, announcing what will be the 56-year-old’s first marriage.
From Booker
Booker spoke of his dedication to Lewis, talking about how he’s looking forward to life with her.
“I am savoring the soul-affirming wonder of everyday life with my partner, best friend, and now my fiancée,” Booker wrote.
“We are excited for this journey ahead, having so much fun, and feeling deeply grateful for the love, support, and energy so many of you have shared with us.”
This is just a few years after he made news for dating actress Rosario Dawson. Lewis and Booker began living together in Washington sometime earlier this year.
Political background
Despite having carved out a significant spot in Democratic politics, in the grand scheme of Senate tenures, Booker hasn’t been in office nearly as long as many of his colleagues.
The New Jersey firebrand was elected in 2013 as the result of a special election, but won a regular election a year later.
In an April speech, which lasted more than 25 hours, Booker had harsh words for Trump’s agenda, something that has been consistent since Trump’s appearance on the political scene.
“Musk derangement syndrome”
The political has gone so far as to liken Trump’s actions to those of oppressive and even communist regimes, as can be seen in some of his social media content.
Musk Derangement Syndrome is real.
Sen. Corey Booker just shared a cartoon replicating the infamous “Tank Man” photo from Tiananmen Square with Cybertrucks.
No, Spartacus, cutting fraud & waste isn’t the same as CCP massacres.

Booker is expected to run for president again in 2028, something he addressed during a recent town hall when he said he was focused on his current Senate reelection campaign for 2026.
Prior to his time in the Senate, he worked as the mayor of Newark, New Jersey, which is the state’s largest city.
