President Donald Trump is demanding transparency from pharmaceutical companies over the COVID-19 vaccines developed during Operation Warp Speed.
In a forceful Truth Social post on Monday, he called on drug manufacturers to release their data on vaccine effectiveness.
This raises questions about the legacy of the program he launched in 2020.
“It is very important that the Drug Companies justify the success of their various Covid Drugs. Many people think they are a miracle that saved Millions of lives. Others disagree!” Trump wrote.
“With CDC being ripped apart over this question, I want the answer, and I want it NOW.”
Trump explained that he had been shown information from Pfizer and other companies but claimed those results were not being shared with the public.
“They show me GREAT numbers and results, but they don’t seem to be showing them to many others,” he said.
“I want them to show them NOW, to CDC and the public, and clear up this MESS, one way or the other!!!”
He added, “I hope OPERATION WARP SPEED was as ‘BRILLIANT’ as many say it was. If not, we all want to know about it and why?? Thank you for your attention to this very important matter! President DJT.”
The demand came during a period of upheaval at the Department of Health and Human Services.
The Food and Drug Administration recently restricted COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to individuals over 65 or with pre-existing conditions.
The decision followed guidance from HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has been a prominent critic of vaccine safety.
Shortly after, CDC Director Susan Monarez was dismissed after less than a month in her position.
Reports indicated her removal stemmed from disputes with Kennedy over vaccine policy.
Monarez’s attorneys, Abbe Lowell and Mark Zaid, released a statement condemning the firing.
“When CDC Director Susan Monarez refused to rubber-stamp unscientific, reckless directives and fire dedicated health experts, she chose protecting the public over serving a political agenda. For that, she has been targeted,” they said.
“This is not about one official. It is about the systematic dismantling of public health institutions, the silencing of experts, and the dangerous politicization of science.”
Rift News outlined that the fallout continued when three senior CDC officials resigned in protest. Dr. Demetre Daskalakis, head of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases; Dr. Dan Jernigan, head of the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases; and Dr. Deb Houry, chief medical officer, each left the agency citing Kennedy’s leadership and the agency’s shift away from established science.
Jim O’Neill, a deputy under Kennedy, was appointed acting CDC director following Monarez’s departure.
The resignations fueled political backlash.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer posted on social media urging, “Fire RFK Jr. now.”
Senator Bernie Sanders published an op-ed in the New York Times stating, “Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is endangering the health of the American people now and into the future. We need science at the CDC. Not conspiracy theories. Kennedy must resign.”
Operation Warp Speed was established in May 2020 under Trump’s administration to accelerate the development and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.
The initiative, hailed by Trump as a breakthrough, delivered vaccines by early 2021, although the distribution rollout took place under President Joe Biden.
“We are delivering millions of doses of a safe and effective vaccine that will soon end this terrible pandemic and save millions and millions of lives,” Trump said in 2020 while promoting the program, per Rift News.
More than 711 million COVID-19 vaccine doses had been administered in the United States by 2025, according to the World Health Organization, with 70 percent of Americans fully vaccinated.
Despite this, concerns grew over vaccine side effects and breakthrough infections.
Rift News added that by 2021, reports surfaced that vaccines developed by Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson caused adverse reactions and deaths, while still allowing infections among vaccinated individuals.
A May 2025 Kaiser Family Foundation poll found only 30 percent of Republicans considered the vaccines safe, compared with 55 percent of independents and 87 percent of Democrats.
Trump’s own supporters often booed him at rallies when he defended the vaccines.
