A shocking and deeply disturbing case has rocked the University of Kentucky community after 21-year-old student and former pageant contestant Laken Snelling was arrested in Lexington on charges connected to the death of her newborn child.
Police say the infant was discovered inside a black trash bag in a closet, wrapped in a towel. According to the arrest citation, Snelling admitted to giving birth and then attempting to conceal the birth by cleaning up evidence and hiding the child’s body. Authorities also allege she placed the cleaning items used in the same trash bag with the infant.

Snelling now faces charges of abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant. She is currently being held at the Fayette County Detention Center as investigators continue to examine the timeline of events. The Fayette County Coroner’s Office has not yet determined the baby’s official cause of death.
The University of Kentucky confirmed that Snelling had been a member of the school’s STUNT team for the past three seasons, a role that put her in the public spotlight. In a statement, the university said, “We can confirm that she has been a member of the STUNT team for the last three seasons. All other questions should be directed to the Lexington Police.”
What makes the story all the more shocking is Snelling’s public profile — a student-athlete and pageant competitor whose polished image now stands in stark contrast with the horrific allegations. The news has sent shockwaves through the campus and the wider Kentucky community, raising painful questions about how such a tragedy could happen behind closed doors.
As the investigation unfolds, one thing is clear: this case has left a community reeling, demanding justice for the infant whose short life ended in such a heartbreaking way.
