Officer arrested for firing gun during domestic dispute

MIAMI, FL – A Miami police officer was released on bond following her arrest in connection with a domestic violence incident involving her boyfriend, who is also a member of the force. Officer Stephanie Canazeris is accused of discharging a firearm during an argument with her partner.

Authorities reported that the incident unfolded at the couple’s residence, where they live with their child. During the dispute, Canazeris allegedly brandished a firearm outside the home. Her boyfriend recounted hearing a gunshot, prompting him to secure himself and the child in a bedroom for safety.

Following the incident, Canazeris herself contacted the police and was subsequently taken to a hospital for evaluation before being booked into jail. In a bond court hearing, the judge determined that there was insufficient evidence to proceed with an aggravated assault charge.

Despite the lack of evidence for the more serious charge, the judge found probable cause for a misdemeanor related to the discharge of a firearm. As a result, a modified stay-away order was issued, prohibiting any violent interaction between Canazeris and her boyfriend.

The court order also stipulates that Canazeris must be present at home to care for their child, as her partner is not permitted to do so alone. She was granted a $500 bond, which allowed her release from jail late last night.

The Miami Police Department has placed Officer Canazeris on paid administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing. The department emphasized its commitment to a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
