As Alderman Lopez powerfully stated on NewsNation, “We should be working to make sure that we are in coordination with each other… There’s nothing stopping the mayor of the city of Chicago, the governor of the state of Illinois, from picking up the phone and reaching out to the President of the United States and saying, ‘What can we do to be on the same page?’” This is a simple, logical, and life-saving proposition that any sane leader would embrace. Yet, for Johnson and Pritzker, the prospect of working with President Trump is so ideologically repugnant that they would rather preside over a city in chaos.
The most heartbreaking element of this entire disgraceful situation is the human cost, a cost that these Democrat leaders have evidently decided is acceptable.
