CNN’s Kasie Hunt makes Trump’s point on tariffs for him, laments she’s now forced to “order from American companies”

If you were tasked to go out and make the Trump Administration’s case on tariffs for them, I can’t think of a better example than having a CNN host disappointed over how much her wall hook from Sweden costs now ($80), adding that Trump might now get what he wants from her because…wait for it…”I might now order from American companies.”

Not that the Admin’s messaging on tariffs has always been on point. Some of it is good (Scott Bessent), others should not talk as much (Howard Lutnick). But if you’re looking to drive home the point of buying American, sprinkled in with a bit of NYC-DC area elitism, CNN’s Kasie Hunt lamenting that she may be forced to buy an American hook over a Swedish one is the bee’s knees.

All of this is against he backdrop of new reports that Trump’s tariffs could drive down the deficit. Bigly.

The CBO report found that increased tariffs — many targeting imports from China, Mexico, Canada, and the European Union as well as automobiles, steel, and other goods — have raised effective tariff rates by about 18 percentage points compared to last year. If these rates remain, primary deficits would shrink by $3.3 trillion and interest payments would fall by another $700 billion, bringing the total deficit reduction to $4 trillion over 10 years.

Higher tariff revenues mean less need for federal borrowing, resulting in significant savings on national debt interest payments.

Mayhaps there is still a depressing ticking time bomb of inflating economic calamity coming. We’ve been told that the sky would be falling since before Liberation Day. Checking it with my portfolio and 401 (k), the exact opposite has happened. But the “experts,” when they get bored complaining about Trump fighting crime in DC or Chicago, go back to saying the tariffs are going to destroy us all.

The way things look right now, it kinda looks like Trump knows what he’s doing.
