It was another bloody weekend in the nation’s third most populous city, Chicago.
As of Monday morning, an astounding 53 people have been shot—and five of the victims are dead.
This from redstate.com.
If Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson or Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker care, they have a funny way of showing it. Instead of welcoming federal help, they have been figuratively spitting in the eye of President Trump, who wants to attack crime in the Windy City similarly to how he shut down violence overnight in Washington, D.C. by temporarily federalizing the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and deploying the National Guard.

The list in the above tweet goes on… and on.
But Johnson is refusing help; He seems to like the way things are now:
Mayor Brandon Johnson is taking new steps to fight President Donald Trump’s expected immigration crackdown and potential National Guard deployment in the Chicago area.
Johnson signed the ‘Protecting Chicago’ executive order on Saturday as the Trump administration prepares to conduct a major immigration enforcement operation, which could start next week.
If “Protecting Chicago” means watching teens die week after week, then Johnson is your man.

For progressive Democrats, blocking the federal government matters more than stopping crime.

Johnson does not seem to mind seeing murder played out endlessly on the streets, but the one thing he does not want to see is tanks (which no one has threatened to deploy):
‘We do not want to see tanks in our streets. You do not want to see families ripped apart. You do not want grandmothers thrown into the back of unmarked vans,’ Johnson said.
With a stroke of a pen, Johnson signed an executive order establishing the Protecting Chicago Initiative. It directs city agencies to regularly submit Freedom of Information Act requests regarding actions taken by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. And it reaffirms that the Chicago Police Department will remain a locally controlled law enforcement agency.
Meanwhile, Gov. JB Pritzker, who laughably has designs on the presidency, would rather keep the status quo than keep his mind open to anything that might help:
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker threatens Trump that if the National Guard is deployed to Chicago, Democrats will target Trump with politically motivated lawfare when they have the majority

Pritzker and Johnson seem to be OK with the killing—apparently, they would accept any level of carnage as long as they can make sure Trump does not get a win:
The weekend’s first fatal shooting occurred at 11:56 p.m. Friday, according to ABC 7, leaving a 25-year-old woman dead.
Nearly 12 hours later, at 11:01 a.m. Saturday, a 29-year-old man was shot to death in a drive-by incident. The man and a friend were standing outside ‘in the 500-block of North Sawyer’ when the shooting occurred.
At 7:46 p.m. a 43-year-old woman ‘in the 900-block of E. 131st Street’ was killed when five men walked up to her and began shooting.
Sunday at 1:39 a.m. three men ‘in the 1900 block of W. 17th Street’ were shot and one of them, a 46-year-old, succumbed to his wounds.
At 2:52 a.m. Sunday a 33-year-old man was shot in the head and killed during an argument.
Et cetera, et cetera. You really want to keep defending that, Pritzker and Johnson?
