Something very troubling is happening in Arizona, and it should concern every American who loves this country and its Constitution. Democrat Representative Yassamin Ansari recently visited an ICE detention center in Eloy, Arizona. There, she made a shocking statement. She said that the illegal aliens held at the facility are her “constituents.” Let that sink in. A sitting member of the United States Congress is claiming that people who broke our laws, who are not citizens, and who have no legal right to be here, are somehow the people she was elected to represent.
This is not just a slip of the tongue. Ansari doubled down. She said it again and again. And when people rightfully called her out for it, she didn’t back away. Instead, she insisted that it’s her job to help illegal aliens—people who knowingly entered our country without permission, violating our laws and our sovereignty.
Let’s be clear: the word “constituent” has a meaning. It refers to the citizens and legal residents of a particular district—the people who vote and pay taxes, who work hard, raise families, and follow the rules. These are the people a representative is supposed to serve. Not foreign nationals in detention. Not people who broke the law to get here. And certainly not people whose very presence in our country is illegal.
Ansari’s words reveal something deeper and more dangerous: the growing idea on the Left that citizenship no longer matters. That borders are just lines on a map. That anyone, from anywhere, can come into our country and demand the same rights and benefits as American citizens. That idea is wrong. It is un-American. And it is exactly what our Founders warned us about.
Our Constitution was written to protect the rights of American citizens. The powers it gives to Congress are limited and clear. Nowhere does it say that members of Congress are to represent the interests of non-citizens, let alone illegal aliens. In fact, the federal government’s number one job is to protect the sovereignty of the United States and defend its laws. That includes enforcing our immigration laws and securing our borders.
Ansari’s behavior is not just misguided—it’s a betrayal of her oath. She swore to uphold the Constitution of the United States. That means standing up for the rule of law, not ignoring it. That means defending the rights of American citizens, not giving aid and comfort to those who violate our laws.
And let’s talk about what this means for the people she was actually elected to represent. While she’s busy visiting detention centers and fighting for the “rights” of illegal aliens, Arizona citizens are dealing with rising costs, unsafe neighborhoods, and overwhelmed public services. Families are struggling to make ends meet. Border towns are being flooded with illegal crossings. Crime is up. Our hospitals and schools are stretched thin. And yet, Ansari believes her job is to help those who broke into our country.
This is what happens when lawmakers forget who they work for. They stop listening to the people and start serving their own political agenda. It’s time we remind them: they work for us, the American people—not for foreign nationals in detention centers.
In 2025, with President Trump back in office, we are restoring law and order. We are putting America first again. But we need every citizen to stay alert and stay involved. We must hold our representatives accountable. If they forget who they serve, we must vote them out and replace them with true patriots—men and women who will defend our Constitution, protect our borders, and put the American people first.
Representative Ansari may think illegal aliens are her constituents. But the rest of us know the truth. Only citizens and legal residents have that right. And it’s time we stand up and demand that our leaders remember it.
