Rep. Dwayne Yunker Responds to Passage of HB 3991, Announces Budget Reform Bill
By Oregon State Representative Dwayne Yunker,
SALEM, OR – Today, the Oregon House passed HB 3991 that is expected to cost taxpayers about $5 billion in taxes and fees. Representative Dwayne Yunker (R–Grants Pass) opposed the measure, noting that while he supported the amendments adopted in committee yesterday, the final bill failed to include commonsense Republican proposals to balance ODOT’s budget and protect core operations without new taxes.
“HB 3991 leaves Oregonians with a false choice between plowing snowy mountain passes and protecting their wallets,” Representative Yunker said. “Instead of prioritizing ODOT’s workforce, road maintenance, and disaster response, the Majority has chosen runaway spending that’s doubled Oregon’s budget in just ten years while our population grew less than 8%. Families are paying the price.”
“Oregon families live within a budget, and so should state government,” Representative Yunker said. “It’s time to rein in out-of-control growth and get back to fiscal responsibility.”
Representative Yunker will introduce legislation next session to cap Oregon’s budget growth at inflation plus population increases.
