CBS News finds itself embroiled in yet another editing controversy, this time involving Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s interview on “Face The Nation.”
The network allegedly cut crucial information about a suspected MS-13 gang member from Noem’s televised response.
Secretary Noem took to social media platform X to expose what she called CBS’s “shameful” editing practices.
She posted a side-by-side video comparison showing her complete answer alongside the truncated version that aired on the Sunday morning news program.
The controversy centers around Noem’s discussion of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a suspected MS-13 gang member currently facing human trafficking charges.
CBS aired only a portion of Noem’s comments about ensuring Garcia “doesn’t walk free in the United States of America.”
The network failed to broadcast the remainder of Noem’s detailed explanation about Garcia’s criminal background.
Noem provided specific information about the suspect’s alleged activities and character, according to the uncut footage.
“This individual was a known human smuggler, MS -13 gang member, an individual who was a wife beater, and someone who was so perverted that he solicited nude photos from minors. And even his fellow human traffickers told him to knock it off,” Noem stated in the complete version that CBS chose not to air.
Noem’s full response continued with additional disturbing details about Garcia’s alleged behavior.
She described how Garcia’s actions were so disturbing that even other criminals involved in human trafficking operations found his conduct unacceptable.
“He was so sick in what he was doing and how he was treating small children. So he needs to never be in the United States of America. And our administration is making sure we’re doing all that we can to bring him to justice,” Noem concluded in her uncut statement.
The DHS Secretary characterized CBS’s editing as an attempt to “whitewash the truth” about Garcia and minimize the threat he represents to American public safety.
Her accusations suggest the network deliberately removed information that would inform viewers about the severity of the case.

This latest incident draws immediate comparisons to CBS’s previous editing scandal involving then-Vice President Kamala Harris.
That controversy emerged during the final weeks of the 2024 presidential campaign and resulted in significant legal consequences for the network.
The Harris interview scandal centered on CBS’s “60 Minutes” program, where the network aired different versions of the same response.
A preview clip showed Harris giving one answer to a question about Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, while the broadcast version featured an entirely different response.
In the preview, Harris stated: “Well, Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by, or a result of, many things including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region.”
However, the version that aired during the actual “60 Minutes” broadcast showed Harris saying: “We are not gonna stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end.”
The discrepancy between the two versions led to a lawsuit filed by President Trump against CBS and its parent company Paramount.
Trump’s legal team argued that the network engaged in deceptive editing practices that misrepresented Harris’s actual responses.
The lawsuit accused CBS of deliberately editing the interview to present Harris in a more favorable light to viewers.
Trump’s attorneys claimed this constituted election interference through misleading journalism practices.
CBS News ultimately settled the lawsuit for $16 million last month, representing a significant financial penalty for the network.
The settlement came after months of legal proceedings and public scrutiny over the network’s editorial decisions.
