SAN ANTONIO, TX – A teacher’s assistant from KIPP University Prep High School has been arrested following allegations of inappropriate conduct with a student. Priscilla Castro, 27, faces charges of indecency with a child involving sexual contact.
Authorities reported that a 15-year-old student and her mother visited the police station to provide a statement last Friday. The student described Castro’s behavior as overly affectionate throughout the school year, which made her uncomfortable.
On the last school day, May 23, 2025, the student claimed she encountered Castro alone in a classroom. According to the arrest warrant, Castro offered the girl a book and requested a hug. The teen attempted a side hug, but Castro allegedly pulled her into a full embrace, during which she is accused of inappropriate contact.
The student reported that Castro then attempted to kiss her, prompting the teen to pull away and leave. She initially refrained from telling her mother, fearing the consequences.
The warrant further indicates that Castro continued to reach out to the student, inquiring if she planned to report the incident, even contacting her during the police interview. While the exact nature of these conversations remains unclear, there may have been elements of intimidation.
Laurie Whitmire of Search and Support San Antonio highlighted the difficulties younger victims face in reporting such incidents, noting that schools and churches should be safe environments for children. Whitmire emphasized the importance of open communication with children about inappropriate behavior and ensuring they feel secure in reporting it.
KIPP Texas Public Schools issued a statement affirming their commitment to student safety. They reported the allegations to authorities promptly and terminated Castro’s employment following their investigation.
Castro was released on a $50,000 bond, with conditions prohibiting contact with minors or the school. As of Saturday night, she had posted bail.
