Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani sustained serious injuries in a car crash on Interstate 93 in Manchester, New Hampshire, Saturday night after stopping to assist a woman fleeing a domestic violence situation.
The 81-year-old Giuliani was traveling as a passenger in a Ford Bronco when the vehicle was struck from behind at high speed by a Honda HR-V just before 10 p.m.
This is according to New Hampshire State Police.
A spokesman for Giuliani confirmed the former mayor had been flagged down by a woman who was fleeing a domestic-violence incident earlier in the evening.
Giuliani helped the woman and called 911, remaining at the scene until police officers arrived to handle the situation.
The crash occurred while Giuliani was later traveling on the highway in his rental vehicle, which was hit from behind at high speed.
New Hampshire State Police troopers and fire personnel were already present on the southbound side of Interstate 93 handling the reported domestic-violence incident when they witnessed the two-vehicle collision on the northbound side.
Both vehicles involved in the crash went into the median and sustained heavy damage, according to police reports.
Michael Ragusa, Giuliani’s spokesman and head of security, told Fox News Digital that the former mayor is in “good spirits and recovering tremendously.”
“He’ll be released in a few days and he’s doing great. Conscious, alert, strong. He’ll be back to business as usual this week,” Ragusa stated.
Giuliani received an official diagnosis of “a fractured thoracic vertebrae,” multiple lacerations and contusions, and injuries to his left arm and lower leg, according to Ragusa.
State Police identified the two vehicles involved as a Honda HR-V and a Ford Bronco, with Giuliani riding as a passenger in the Bronco.
Police reports indicate the Honda struck the back of the Bronco during the collision.
No charges have been filed related to the crash as police continue their investigation into the incident.
Ragusa emphasized that the crash was not intentional, stating “This was not a targeted attack” in a reply post on X.
The spokesman requested privacy for Giuliani’s recovery, asking people to “respect Mayor Giuliani’s privacy and recovery, and refrain from spreading unfounded conspiracy theories.”
Giuliani’s business partner and medical provider traveled to the hospital to oversee his care, according to Ragusa’s statement.
Giuliani made headlines back in March after an ex-FBI special agent who had previously claimed the former mayor was potentially “compromised” by Russian intelligence was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport as he attempted to board an international flight.
Court documents filed at the time revealed that Johnathan Buma faced charges of disclosing confidential material under 18 U.S. Code Section 1905, Resist the Mainstream reported earlier this year.
Buma had submitted his resignation just one day before his arrest.
He allegedly printed approximately 130 files from the FBI’s internal network on October 27, 2023, according to the filing.
These included nine text documents containing protected information.
Buma also reportedly printed screenshots of communications with a confidential human source from an encrypted application.
