So-called comedian Rosie O’Donnell has issued a formal apology following inaccurate statements she made about the Minneapolis school shooter who killed two children at a Catholic school last week.
The entertainer, who previously moved to Ireland following Donald Trump’s election victory, posted a video statement on TikTok Friday making false claims about the shooter’s political affiliation.
In her original TikTok video, O’Donnell stated her reaction to news of the Minnesota shooting.
“Saw about the Minnesota shooting, and it brought me right back to Columbine in 1999 when I just could not get it through my head that students in American were shooting each other in schools,” she said, per reports.
O’Donnell then made unsubstantiated claims about the shooter’s identity and motivations.
“This was a church inside a Catholic school. And what do you know? This was a white guy, Republican, MAGA person, what do you know? White supremacist,” she stated in the video.
The shooter, however, has been identified as Robin Westman, a man that pretended to be a woman who held nihilistic viewpoints and maintained an obsession with previous mass shooters.
Investigators discovered that Westman had written “kill Donald Trump” in white lettering on one of her weapons, along with racist messages.
O’Donnell released an apology video on Sunday addressing her earlier statements.
“I know a lot of you were very upset about the video I made before I went away for a few days. You are right and I did not do my due diligence before I made that emotional statement,” she said.
The comedian acknowledged her errors in the follow-up video.
“I said things about the shooter that were incorrect. I assumed, like most shooters, they followed a standard MO and had standard feelings of you know, NRA-loving kind of gun people.”
O’Donnell concluded her apology by taking responsibility for the misinformation.
“The truth is, I messed up and when you mess up, you fess up. I’m sorry, this is my apology video and I hope it’s enough,” she stated.
WATCH:
Resist the Mainstream previously reported that the shooting occurred at Annunciation Catholic School when Westman fired through stained glass windows at children who were praying in the church pews around 8:30 AM on Wednesday.
Westman, who changed his name from Robert in 2019, carried three firearms during the attack: a rifle, a shotgun and a pistol. This is according to police reports.
Law enforcement confirmed that all three weapons were purchased legally and that Westman fired each weapon during the assault.
The attack resulted in the deaths of two children, ages eight and ten, while at least 17 other victims sustained injuries, including 14 children and three parishioners in their eighties.
Following the shooting, Westman turned one of the weapons on herself and was found dead inside the church by responding officers.
Police sources have identified Westman to multiple news outlets, noting that she had no prior criminal record and that investigators continue to examine possible motives.
A disturbing video posted to a now-deleted YouTube account appears to contain the shooter’s manifesto and reveals concerning details about her mindset.
The 20-minute video shows Westman displaying ammunition, magazines and firearms while discussing her fascination with other school shooters and expressing hostility toward both Trump and the church.
In the video, Westman presented handwritten notes addressed to family and friends, revealing her belief that she was suffering from cancer caused by vaping.
“I think I am dying of cancer. It’s a tragic end as it’s entirely self inflicted. I did this to myself as I cannot control myself and have been destroying my body through vaping and other means,” Westman wrote in the letter.
The note continued with Westman expressing his desire to “go out on my own means” and describing his plan for what she called a “final act,” the Daily Mail reported.
“Unfortunately, due to my depression, anger and twisted mid, I want to fulfill a final act that has been in the back of my head for years,” the letter stated.
Westman signed the document with “Robin M Westman, 2002-2025” and included what appeared to be a drawing of a bird.
The video also revealed ammunition cartridges with white writing that included the names of previous school shooters, including “Lanza,” referencing Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza.
