The US State Department has approved two separate sales of military and communications equipment to Ukraine, totaling more than $300 million, as stated by Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal on August 30.
“The Patriot system is vital for Ukraine’s ability to defend its people, cities, and critical infrastructure from persistent Russian air attacks,” Shmyhal wrote in a statement.
The first package, valued at $179.1 million, covers equipment and services to sustain Ukraine’s Patriot air defense systems. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) noted that the support includes spare parts, training, technical assistance, and logistics services.
In addition, the State Department cleared the sale of Starlink satellite communication services and related equipment worth an estimated $150 million. The package includes terminals, spare components, maintenance support, and training to ensure continued operation of the system, which has become a key element in Ukraine’s secure communications network.
“The United States remains committed to supporting Ukraine’s defense capabilities,” the DSCA statement said.
