You can build the most elaborate structure imaginable, with soaring spires and gleaming facades, but ignore the foundation and watch it all come tumbling down. For decades, American education has been that crumbling tower – abandoning basic truths in favor of fashionable theories, replacing common sense with credentialed nonsense. We’ve watched as teachers’ unions and progressive activists transformed our schools into laboratories for social experimentation, where reading and writing took a backseat to ideology, and where even the most fundamental realities became negotiable.
Look, I’ve watched parents spend years getting steamrolled by these people. School board meetings became battlegrounds where concerned mothers were labeled extremists for questioning curriculum. Districts spent millions on diversity consultants while test scores plummeted. The very people entrusted with our children’s education seemed more interested in revolution than reading comprehension.
But elections have consequences, and when Americans chose Donald Trump in 2024, they weren’t just picking a president – they were demanding a return to sanity in every institution that shapes our children’s futures.
The education establishment didn’t expect the pushback to come so swiftly or decisively. Did they really think we’d just keep taking it? Yet here we are, watching as the federal government finally uses its authority to protect students rather than enable their confusion.
This week, the Department of Education determined that Denver Public Schools violated federal civil rights law when East High School converted a girls’ bathroom into an “all-gender” facility. The investigation, launched just days after Trump’s inauguration, found that the district had eliminated a female-only restroom on the school’s second floor while maintaining a boys-only facility. When the school tried to “fix” the problem by converting the boys’ bathroom too, federal investigators weren’t impressed – noting this still allowed males to “invade sensitive female-only facilities.”
From Craig Trainor, acting assistant secretary for civil rights at the Department of Education:
Denver is free to endorse a self-defeating gender ideology, but it is not free to accept federal taxpayer funds and harm its students in violation of Title IX. By having a gender-neutral washroom at East High School, the district created a hostile environment for its students by endangering their safety, privacy and dignity while denying them access to equal educational activities and opportunities.
Let that sink in. Your tax dollars funded this insanity. A school district took federal money and used it to strip away the basic privacy rights of teenage girls. They literally removed safe spaces for female students in the name of inclusivity. The district now has ten days to convert all gender-neutral bathrooms back to sex-designated facilities or face federal sanctions. This isn’t just about one bathroom in one school; it’s about whether we’ll allow ideological experiments to override the safety and dignity of our daughters.
Denver isn’t alone in facing this reckoning. The Trump administration has launched similar investigations in Virginia, Maine, California, Oregon, and Minnesota. From coast to coast, school districts that prioritized gender ideology over biological reality are discovering that the free ride is over. Education Secretary Linda McMahon put it bluntly: these schools put “gender ideology above girls’ privacy and dignity.”
Here’s what kills me – they call us the extremists. We’re not the ones denying biological reality. We’re witnessing a return to the bare minimum of common sense. For too long, parents who objected to these policies were dismissed as bigots. Mothers who didn’t want their daughters sharing locker rooms with biological males were told they needed to be “educated.” Well, it turns out the real education was happening at the ballot box, where Americans made clear they’d had enough.
And you know what? The speed of this change tells you everything about how desperately it was needed. We’re not even through the first year of Trump’s return, and already the message is clear: the days of sacrificing our children’s safety on the altar of progressive politics are over. For every parent who sat through a school board meeting feeling helpless, for every mother who was told her concerns didn’t matter, this moment is vindication.
The foundation is being repaired, one common-sense decision at a time. And maybe, just maybe, we can build something worth standing on again.
