The Daily Mail calls her a “Latina firebrand” and claims that she is “desperate for attention.” The Independent is more restrained, contenting itself with calling her a “far-right MAGA congressional candidate” who, it says cattily, “has a history of posting violent stunts and using hateful rhetoric against Muslims, the LGBT+ community, Black people, and immigrants, in an attempt to gain notoriety to further a flailing attempt at a political career that has so far gone nowhere.” Clearly, the leftist propagandists of the establishment media want you to hate Valentina Gomez. And that in itself is a clear indication that she is on to something.
The Daily Mail hates her because she set fire to the Qur’an in what the paper, which reports superbly on jihad violence yet vilifies and demonizes everyone who proposes even the mildest resistance to that violence, calls a “vile stunt to ‘end Islam.’” And so the question immediately arises: if Valentina Gomez were a leftist activist who set fire to the Bible in order to protest against the leftist media’s pet chimera of “Christian nationalism,” would the Daily Mail call it a “vile stunt”?
The answer is clear. If Valentina Gomez had posted a video of herself burning the Bible, the same people who are calling her “far-right,” the media’s all-purpose and thoroughly content-free label for anyone it dislikes, and claiming that she is “desperate for attention” would be hailing her “courage” in “standing up to the hidebound right-wing Christian establishment” or some such.
As it is, however, the Daily Mail stated that Gomez was “courting controversy” by torching the Qur’an with a flamethrower while declaring: “America is a Christian nation, so those terrorist Muslims can *** to any of the 57 Muslim nations. There is only one true God, and that is the God of Israel.” The Mail, attempting to add even more to its indictment of Gomez, then informs its hapless readers that “earlier this year, Gomez barged on stage during a Muslim event at the Texas Capitol, and used the occasion to decry Islam as the ‘religion of rape, incest, and pedophilia, where they bow down to a stupid rock, and a false prophet.’”
Conspicuously lacking from the Daily Mail’s indignant and contemptuous hit piece on Gomez, however, is any refutation of her statements about Islam. We are told nothing to convince that Islam is not a religion of rape, incident, and pedophilia. The Daily Mail takes it as self-evident that Islam is none of those things, and that all right-thinking people know this. The distaste it obviously has for Valentina Gomez is a giant signal to its readers that they should regard her in the same way.
The Independent, meanwhile, wants you to know that decent folk are fighting back: “There has been a furious reaction to an anti-Islamic campaign ad posted by a far-right MAGA congressional candidate in which she sets fire to the Quran with a flamethrower.” She says she wants to “‘end Islam’ in the Lone Star State,” but this is ridiculous, you see, because “approximately one percent of Texas’s population is Muslim.”
And if that isn’t enough to convince you that Gomez is bad, the Independent adds the bit about “violent stunts” and “hateful rhetoric,” and even includes a sample of the latter: “‘Your daughters will be raped and your sons beheaded, unless we stop Islam once and for all,’ Gomez said before setting fire to a copy of the holy book.”
The Independent adds that “condemnation came quickly in response to the clip.” A person identified only as “podcaster Brian Allen” is quoted as saying: “This isn’t politics. It’s incitement. When the mosques start burning, remember: this was the match and the Texas GOP handed her the lighter.” Gomez did not, however, actually call for mosques to be burned, or for any kind of violence or illegal activity. Allen is employing the old leftist tactic of equating criticism with violence, which somehow never applies to leftists even when they call for violence outright against those whom they hate and fear.
In the avalanche of negative courage that Gomez received, however, for daring to burn the only religious text that leftists respect, not a single leftist “journalist” thought it newsworthy to ask her why she was burning the Qur’an, or to say even the smallest thing about why anyone might have any problem with the book.
No, instead, all we get is a monochromatic “Valentina Gomez is bad for burning the holy book,” with no curiosity whatsoever about what might be in it that could be problematic. Nor do any of the establishment media stories about Gomez say anything about jihad terrorism at all, or about the death threats from jihad groups for anyone who burns the Qur’an, which makes burning it a stand against violent intimidation and bullying. The less the public knows about all that, the easier it will be for establishment media propagandists to portray her as an evil fascist.
Gomez responded to the Daily Mail: “I am desperate to save girls from getting raped by muslims. You are desperate for clicks. I save lives while you cover up for these islamic terrorists. We are not the same.” Indeed.
