A California mom is behind bars after her young daughter was allegedly found wandering a busy street late at night wearing only a diaper and a shirt, carrying an iPad, and accompanied by a small dog, authorities said.
The shocking discovery happened around 10 p.m. Wednesday near the bustling Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park in the Santa Clarita Valley, about 35 miles northeast of Los Angeles. Good Samaritan Julius Rivera spotted the girl, believed to be around six years old, as she walked through a busy intersection alone.
“I was trying to stop her, but she kept running from me, so I called the cops,” Rivera told KTLA, explaining that deputies eventually found her in the parking lot of a nearby Five Below store. “She was just wearing a diaper and a shirt, and a backpack, and she had her little dog and an iPad.”
Deputies identified the child and tracked down her home using the iPad she was carrying. When they arrived, they allegedly found her mother, 28-year-old Michelle Negrellos, asleep inside. According to authorities, Negrellos “displayed symptoms of intoxication, including slurred speech, impaired coordination, and a strong odor of alcohol.”
Deputies said Negrellos appeared completely unaware that her daughter — who they believe may have developmental challenges — had wandered away from home. The child has since been released to her father, who has not been publicly identified.
Negrellos was arrested on charges of felony child endangerment and remains in custody, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department records. Officials say the investigation is ongoing.
