Border czar Tom Homan vowed a nonstop effort will continue to be made to ensure that “every one” of the thousands of unaccompanied children lost under the last administration is found.
The former acting director of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spoke of the heartbreaking number of minors who remain unaccounted for after coming across the U.S. border illegally during President Joe Biden’s tenure at the White House. Speaking with Fox News, Homan revealed that about 23,000 children out of nearly 300,000 have been located so far.

“Out of the 300,000 children, I looked at the numbers just yesterday, we located over 23,000 of them,” he said.
“So, 23,000 locations of the 300,000. But President Trump is committed. We’re not gonna stop until we find every one of them or at least run every lead down of those 300,000 children,” he vowed.
“So that’s a big plus for the administration, because the last administration wasn’t even looking for them,” he added.
An August 2024 report by the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) noted that ICE “cannot always monitor the location and status of unaccompanied migrant children who are released from DHS and HHS custody.”
ICE “was not able to account for the location of all UCs [unaccompanied migrant children] who were released by HHS and did not appear as scheduled in immigration court. ICE reported more than 32,000 UCs failed to appear for their immigration court hearings from FYs 2019 to 2023,” the report stated.
“The media’s simply not covering it,” Homan said last month, referring to DHS reporting that 10,000 of the children had been located.
“This should be a nonpartisan issue. Arresting public safety threats and national security threats, everybody should be on same page on that. Rescuing children, I mean, it should be a nonpartisan issue. Everybody should be in lockstep on that, but they’re not,” he said at the time.
“The media’s lying. The Democrats don’t want President Trump to be successful, but I’ve got news for them; we are being successful. Every illegal alien public safety threat we arrest makes this country safer. Every national security threat we take off this street and deport makes us safer and we’re rescuing thousands of children,” Homan added.
The Trump administration has rescued over 13,000 unaccompanied minors who were trafficked and lost during Biden’s presidency.

“The Biden Border Crisis created a humanitarian crisis that left over 233,000 unaccompanied alien children (UACs) without proper legal oversight and vulnerable to exploitation,” the House Oversight Committee said in a press release last month.
