Let’s talk about how we got here. What I mean is what processes do we go through that gets us where we are in our beliefs? And how can our conclusions be so different when we started from the same starting point?
Here’s an example of what I mean. Some will say that we are Gods every bit as much as Jesus was. That this is the reason God made us. So that men might become Gods. This notion is codified in the Roman Catholic catechism. And is also believed by the blab it and grab it cult as well. And even others will say that Jesus was not God.
How did they get there? How is this possible when they started at the same starting point as others who vehemently reject that kind of thinking?
Some believe there are babies in hell because this was God’s will for them from before they were ever born. These are called Calvinists. Others will say there are no babies in hell. But, how did they get there?
Some believe that man is a spiritual being when he is conceived because they believe Adam was a spiritual being when God made him. Others reject this using the same scriptures. So how did they get there?
These conclusions are always the result of starting with the wrong premise. A foundation that leads logically as in A+B=C to a conclusion that is discernibly unBiblical when scripture is taken in context. So much so in fact that even many who begin with the same foundational beliefs will break with its logic in an attempt to stay faithful to their unBiblical premise. While also trying to remain faithful to at least some of the more obvious Biblical teachings that contradict such an idea.
In Trump’s speech last Tuesday night he said something that no one that believes original sin and sin nature can say while remaining faithful to the logical conclusions that doctrinal premise leads to. He said that “children are perfect just the way God made them.”
In their minds this is anathema because they believe that babies are sinners from conception. A malady passed from parent to child in their flesh. In their DNA. And since they believe sin separates men from God babies who are separated from conception and die in that separated state go to hell.
These will point to a child’s behavior to confirm this as fact by saying that children do not need to be taught to sin. That they come by it naturally. But, anyone with 2 brain cells talking to each other can figure out that children are taught everything they know about good and evil. And that unless it is taught to them from others or by experience they will never know it.
We are told in Deut.1:39 that children have no knowledge of good and evil. And we are told also in Gen.3:22 that until after Adam ate the fruit he too had no knowledge of good and evil. And that in this state sin is not imputed.
Which is why the children of Israel in the wilderness were allowed by God to go into the promised land. And their parents who sinned were not. And is also why we see in Gen.3 and 4 that Adam’s relationship with God did not change one bit after he ate the fruit. But, that God continued to give him instructions after he left the garden just as He did while Adam was in the garden.
Here is another example to show this alternative view about children I offer that I believe is consistent with what the Bible says. How that a child before he can even talk is taught selfishness from his parents. Dad or mom sits down with a cup of something hot. The child sees dad or mom enjoying it and wants some too. As the child reaches out for some dad or mom says no it’s too hot for you to have any.
The child doesn’t understand what dad or mom has said. Or that they are trying to protect him. But, what he can understand from this interaction is that dad or mom do not share. Even with someone they are supposed to love and care for. The child has just learned, albeit inadvertently, selfishness from dad or mom.
You can use any number of illustrations to show this is how a child learns. And why a child does indeed need to be taught to sin. And also to be taught not to sin. He needed to be taught the knowledge of good and evil.
Paul says that the best way for men to learn about good and evil is by studying and understanding the word of God. He says in Heb.5:14, “But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”
Now the way Paul shares this here being able to discern between good and evil is a very good thing. And beneficial for every believer who wants to become mature in the things of God.
But, when some people read the Genesis account where we see Adam gaining this knowledge they want to make it a bad thing. Something they say Adam was punished for. This isn’t the only thing these people who believe original sin and sin nature are inconsistent about.
Because of this strong delusion these people also continue to teach that children are born sinners. And that it is because of this that they don’t need to be taught how to sin. And that they are not perfect from the womb just the way God made them.
By the way, Jesus agrees with what Trump said in his speech. And not with what all those so called theologians believe and teach. This is why He said, “Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”
As theologians they should know better. But, they don’t. And they got there the same way everyone who believes the doctrine of original sin and sin nature will when they are fair with the logic and follow that false doctrine out to its logical conclusion. The conclusion that comes from the beliefs that beginning as a sinner they can never be anything but a sinner.
Here’s what one such preacher said has to say about this. “As we see in Genesis 22:13 above, God arranged for Abraham a different sacrifice in the form of a ram whose horns were caught in a nearby thicket. Isaac was saved because God provided a sacrifice to take his place.
In this story, we see Jesus and His saving work. Every one of us has sinned. We deserve God’s punishment, which is death. Even though we sinned against Him, God loves us so much that He provided a sacrifice to die in our place—just as He did with Abraham and Isaac. If we believe in Christ, we will have eternal life.”
See how he uses the events of Abraham to prove something the passage does not say about all men being sinners from conception? And that the ram was sacrificed in Isaac’s place just as he believes Jesus was for mankind? When this passage says nothing of the sort.
How is it that he came to such a conclusion? He comes to it by inserting his pre conceived ideas about original sin and sin nature into the scriptures.
But, if we simply read and believe what this passage says without the strong delusional theory of original sin and sin nature we come to a very different conclusion.
Because then we can see that what God was really doing here with Abraham was exactly what Paul says happened in Rom.4:1-5. God was giving him a chance to prove that he believed Him. And that it is this believing God that is righteousness. A righteousness that has nothing to do with righteousness someone else doing something to earn it for us, and it’s being imputed to us as these false teachers proclaim. And has nothing to do with any works we do to earn righteousness.
But, is a righteousness that as Paul says in Gal.2:16 is ours simply because we believe in Jesus just as He believed the Father. A righteousness that Jesus was speaking of when He told Israel their righteousness must exceed the righteousness of the Pharisees.
The whole “died in our place” idea that this preacher inserted into the story of Abraham and Isaac is the logical conclusion that is reached when a person begins with the doctrine of original sin and sin nature as their foundation.
Because in this false teaching its premise is that A men are punished with death because Adam did something bad. So that B the only way for men to be saved from this punishment is for someone to do something good in their place. So that C this good thing is imputed to men for the righteousness that makes them acceptable to God.
See how their premise is the problem? It starts people down a road of strong delusion. By making their damnation, and their salvation, dependent upon works. The whole thing becomes the very works salvation construct that the Bible in Gal.1:8,9 says is anathema.
In contrast, when we begin with believing what the scriptures plainly say taking it to its logical conclusion leads to the truth that sets men free. We begin with A where in Genesis we see that death was not a punishment for Adam’s sin because there was no law when he sinned. And sin is not imputed when there is no law.
This leads us to B where Gen.3:22 shows us plainly that the reason Adam died, as well as the rest of mankind, was that now equipped with the knowledge of good and evil he was sent from the garden to be kept from eating from the tree of life. And that this happened because he became more like God now having the knowledge of good and evil.
Now being prepared to deal with choices he must be able to make that would join him to God by his free will choice. A condition upon which love thrives. And because Gods is love this is the condition upon which He bases righteousness for eternal life.
Which adds up to C where we see in John3:16 that “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
This is why believing in Jesus is eternal life. And is a choice each one of us will have to make at some point in this life for us to have eternal life. Because righteousness is believing Him. And believing Him is knowing Him. And as Jesus said in John17:3 knowing Him is eternal life.
And when we know Him we will know first and foremost that He loves us. And that He loves every man that has ever come into the world. And that it is because of this love that He is “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
Repentance is when you turn from whatever else you are trusting in now to trust in Jesus for eternal life. By confessing with your mouth the Lord Jesus. And believing in your heart that He has raised from the dead. This is how we are saved.
If you will do this then you will have eternal life. If you will do this then you will be made a child of God and heir to His kingdom. By the creation of a spirit in you that you never had before. A spirit created by God that makes you His child. If you will do this… then I will see you there or in the air!.
