Kroger’s recent mass layoffs are hitting hard — leaving corporate employees and longtime customers reeling
Customers and staff alike have erupted in outrage after the company announced nearly 1,000 corporate employees would be laid off, many of whom had dedicated decades to the grocery giant.
‘My mom just got laid off after working 20-plus years. She’s on the clock right now and doesn’t know what the f*** she’s supposed to be doing,’ a Reddit user wrote.
Another added: ‘Can confirm. I too got laid off after 25 years. But now what do I do with this name?’
Others claimed there were mass layoffs at tech departments in Oregon and Ohio, and that Kroger requested employees to ‘keep the turmoil to a minimum.’
The layoffs come after the grocer decided to shutter more than 60 underperforming stores by the end of 2026.
Kroger initiated the closures as a way to cut costs following its failed $25 billion merger with Albertsons.
