It’s the great mystery of our time: Why do so many people approve of letting criminals romp through our most important cities? As I write this, the Left is sputtering in outrage as President Trump uses his authority to make Washington D.C. safer for tourists and residents. They point to (cooked) crime statistics that “prove” cities are safer than ever, despite daily news stories of robberies, murders, and rapes in these “safe” cities.
You probably know a few of these people. They’re usually the ones who don’t believe in genders, think no one is illegal, and want to amend the constitution to reinstate Stephen Colbert’s Late Night contract. These folks will see a 16-year-old carjacker jabbing a gun into their pregnant wife’s stomach, screaming for her to get out of the car, and think: “Aw, another poor victim of systemic racism.”
I’ve wracked my brain trying to comprehend the psychological model of someone who resists all attempts at common-sense law and order. Even if they’re indifferent to the plights of others, don’t they care about their own personal physical safety? Do they think they are immune to stray bullets, or rape, or deranged lunatics who occasionally shove people in front of subways?
Have they mistaken liberal virtue-signaling as plot armor?
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass inadvertently revealed the real reason liberals are allergic to urban safety. She publicly disapproved of President Trump’s crackdown on crime in Washington, D.C. because it “mainly impacts ‘black and brown youth.’” In other words, she’s unbothered by the crimes black and brown youth commit — she’s only bothered when they get arrested.
It’s a tale as old as time! Like all mayors in these blue cities, the only victims over whom Karen Bass and D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser will lose sleep are the criminals.
This eternal angst over the plight of inner-city teenage carjackers and homeless machete-wielding schizos is why vast swaths of great American cities are no-go zones. Guns are to blame, they say. The economy is at fault. The criminals are hungry. Republicans defunded after-school programs and now they’re bored. Their schools are crumbling. They’re acting out due to generational trauma. Republicans cut food stamps. They’re suffering from depression and gender dysphoria, probably because Trump is president. And mainly, it’s all the racism by whites.
For the sake of argument, let’s say these are the reasons why my sister-in-law’s house in Los Angeles was broken into, ransacked, and robbed a couple weeks ago, why a homeless woman was raped to death by an illegal immigrant in Nashville last week, and why just recently three people were shot in D.C. in a 90-minute period. Liberals will insist it was the systemic racism that drove these criminals to act, the lack of resources, the Republicans doing bad stuff. Fine, okay whatever.
But what about the laws? Do laws get to be enforced or not? Bass and Bowser — and all the other blue state politicians — spent four long Trump years telling us that “no one is above the law.” Of course, now they want to remind us that, actually, a great many people are above the law. What’s more, the people chiefly above the law are criminals. Like you, I’m tired of reading about Obama-appointed judges who release career criminals early so they can get in a few more kills in they go back to prison.
Karen Bass’s statement makes it clear: She would have zero problem with cracking down on teenage car jackers if they were a different shade than brown or black. I’d venture a guess that she would swoon over videos of D.C. police rounding up robbery gangs of white frat boys. She would urge President Trump to lower the hammer of justice on these frat boys and call for the maximum punishment.
Her reasoning makes perfect sense, doesn’t it? In Japan, 96% of prison inmates are Japanese, which obviously means the police must be targeting Asian youth. If most of the criminals in D.C. are black and brown, there might be another reason besides racist policing.
As a result of the crimes that Bass’s ilk want Trump to allow unabated, people are bleeding, dying. Mostly among the dead are the “black and brown” youth Karen Bass claims to care so much about; they’re the ones being impacted the most. That statistic doesn’t seem to matter to liberals. Convincing them that arresting criminals is good for minorities themselves is a lost cause. In fact, the Left is so wrapped up in its inane pro-crime dogma, they don’t even mind that it’s a losing issue in the polls!
Liberals have spent five years convincing themselves that there is only one crime that bothers them, and it’s when a black suspect dies during any interaction with a white police officer. Look the other way, please, if the suspect aims — and fires — a gun at an officer.
There is no point arguing with them on this point anymore. They’re dug in. This is the hill they plan to die on. Even watching your own boyfriend stabbed to death in front of you will not sway you from your position. Even a brutal premeditated stabbing at a track meet in broad daylight will trigger millions in charitable donations to the murderer, and death threats and hate to the victim’s family. The Left has miraculously cured Lady Justice’s blindness; now she can see with pristine vision who the bad guys are.
Guess what! They’re all white. Good job, everyone.
