The 2025 Virginia Gubernatorial election has taken an interesting twist, and it’s an ugly one. If you’re wondering about the bizarre featured image, it stems from an incident that took place in my back yard, here in The People’s Republic of Arlington, Virginia. Last week the GOP candidate, Winsome Sears, showed up to speak at the Arlington County School Board’s meeting to criticize the board’s policies on supporting child mutilation and allowing creeps into girls’ bathrooms. Her speech was good, and you can watch it here. One minor point that I have to defend the school board on, the article states that “Oh, and it’s cute how they turned her mic off before she was done … like that would stop her.” Sears hit the 2 minute mark that all public commenters are given and was simply cut off when she hit that limit. I know, minor point, but with so many legit reasons to blast the Arlington School Board there’s no point in giving them a legit point to defend themselves. And as you might have guessed, Sears’ excellent speech is not why I’m writing this post.
Outside of the event, one of their extremists held up a sign with the exact words you see in the featured image (save for the first line), and it caught fire in the Conservasphere , while of course the Leftist Dinosaur Media is doing everything in their power to ignore the story. I checked the web sites for Washington Post, New York Times, CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, NPR, CNN, and MSNBC – total embargo on this story. The biggest publication I could find was the blog where former WaPo talking head Dave Weigel writes a silly piece, completely oblivious to how Democrats get associated with their radical views. A few other minor Lefty outlets covered the story under the guise “Both parties criticize a sign targeting Winsome Earle-Sears as racist”. I thought that was good to hear, until I read the “criticism” issued not by Spanberger, but from her campaign:
“Instead of stoking division and backing the Trump Administration’s threats to suspend funding for Virginia’s school divisions, Abigail believes these decisions are best made at the local level with local parental input.”
And that weak “response”? It was issued “Earlier Thursday, ahead of the Arlington meeting, Spanberger’s campaign said in a statement about the transgender issue”/
Update – while editing I found that Spanberger issued a better response:
“As I said yesterday, the sign displayed in Arlington last night was racist and abhorrent,” Spanberger said in response to the signage. “Many Virginians remember the segregated water fountains (and buses and schools and neighborhoods) of Virginia’s recent history.
“And no matter the intended purpose or tone and no matter how much one might find someone else’s beliefs objectionable, to threaten a return of Jim Crow and segregation to a Black woman is unacceptable. Full stop.”
But never ones to allow an opportunity to step on their own (members) go to waste, an Arlington Dem official gave this statement on Twitter: “What happened in Arlington wasn’t just about a meeting. It was about the climate Winsome Sears is creating, one where contempt is currency and neighbors are turned against each other. @SpanbergerForVA is running on something stronger: a Virginia where we solve problems, not invent enemies.” (For some reason Twitter isn’t letting me embed the tweet)
So Spanberger has done her usual great job of running a Sundown Joe* strategy of hiding in the basement. Nice of her to condemn a sign, but how about the person carrying it or the Dems’ rhetoric that led to this? Other examples of hiding out include how she pulled a Brave Sir Robin at the prospect of debating Sears. And rather than give Virginia Democrats a choice of candidate, her primary opponent got pressured into dropping out early. I’m assuming that her campaign will ignore this story hoping it will go away. Only if this story continues to build will Spanberger ever respond, and the Dinosaur Media will coordinate her response. So we Normals need to do all that we can to amplify this message. But this isn’t why I’m writing this post, either.
So who was this mystery woman holding the sign? We’ve learned that she is longtime Arlington Democrat activist Anita Martineau. Arlington GOP Chair Matthew Hurtt drilled down into a lot more detail on the Larry o Conner show a few days ago (@ 12 minutes, and gives some great insight into this story). Even though the Dems are trying to throw her under the bus as some lone wolf, social media feeds say otherwise. Martineau is a longtime Dem operative, who had the sides of the aisle been reversed, would have been anointed by the Dinosaur Media as the new face of the GOP. And if history is any indicator, the press and Democrats in office (but I repeat myself) would demand that every Republican office holder condemn the individual. But she’s not the reason for this post, either.
Thanks for sticking with me – I’m finally getting to the point that seems to have been overlooked by all of the stories and videos I’ve seen on this story. Matthew Hurtt also linked to a video where Steve Baker, Chairman of the Arlington County Democratic Committee (Arlington Dems), finally during the meeting had caught wind of how Anita’s sign was catching fire online. He quietly chides her that, “That’s getting a lot of play on TV right now… negative.” Watch the video in the link. Her body language does not suggest even the most remote acknowledgement of how wrong her sign was. It was more of a surprised “Oh, really?” For that matter, how did her sign get this far and stay up for as long as it did? And that’s the disturbing part.
Anita’s sign was probably made at some sign making party, and even if she did it alone, she held it up for hours and it never registered with anyone among her cohorts that the message she was sending was wrong. Baker had to know she had her sign, and it was only when he got wind of how the sign was blowing up social media did it make him say something. Today’s Democrats are so removed from reality that there is almost no message too repulsive for them to allow for the greater good of them achieving power.
To steal a phrase of some vile racists, Martineau is now Spanberger’s White mouth” for “White supremacist practices”. Lest anyone think that Spanberger is being treated unfairly in being asked to be held accountable for one person in a crowd, I’ll remind younger readers of @ 15 years ago when Leftist Extremists used to infiltrate Tea party rallies carrying crazy signs in hopes of getting photographed by some Leftist outlet who could use them to smear the rallies. If that’s too distant, I’m happy to direct you to four years ago in Virginia, when the McAuliffe campaign’ surrogates, The North American Man Boy Lincoln Association, tried to run a false flag operation to smear the Youngkin campaign.
it’s your move, Spanberger.
And because it’s been a while since I’ve embedded a music video, I’ll drop the song with the perfect opening line, “Abigail, don’t you think I know what you’ve done, Abigail?”
PS If you want to make a similar sign similar to the one I made here, this site will create it based on whatever text you provide.
“So, it turns out that threatening to join the Klan if men can’t use women’s bathrooms isn’t getting the traction that we thought it would.”

For all the moms and dads out there, let me say what you’re thinking: This is not normal.
It is not normal to force boys and girls to share locker rooms.
It is not normal to punish kids for their fears.
All parents want is a little normalcy.
That’s what I’m fighting for. pic.twitter.com/4bVEdSvOcv
