A 12-year-old Scottish girl, seen in now viral video footage brandishing a knife and a hatchet at a supposed immigrant, has been arrested and charged, according to Police Scotland.
In the video, three young girls can be seen yelling at the man recording. One of the girls claims she is the older sister of the 12-year-old holding the weapons. She tells the man to “get the f**k away from us. Don’t touch us!”
The 12-year-old calls the man, and whoever is with him behind the camera, “kid bashers.”
Online, commenters appeared to suggest the girls were protecting themselves against an immigrant who was attempting to assault them.
No outlets have reported that the immigrant faced any charges, whereas the young girl was arrested.
Incident occurred in Dundee, Scotland, on Aug. 23
Police Scotland said they were called to St. Ann Lane in Dundee just before 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23. According to the BBC, a Bulgarian couple told police a group of girls brandishing weapons had approached them.
“A 12-year-old girl has been charged with being in possession of offensive weapons. She will be referred to the relevant authorities and our enquiries are ongoing,” Chief Superintendent Nicola Russell said in a statement.
Police say no evidence of assault, girl to be referred to authorities
Officers have found no evidence that the girls were at risk of assault, the BBC reports.
Police Scotland issued a statement warning the public not to spread misinformation about the incident.
“We would like to thank the local community for their help with our investigation and would urge the public not to share misinformation about this incident or speculate on the circumstances,” Russell added.
