The Planned Parenthood abortion business will close two centers in Louisiana – adding to the list of dozens of abortion facilities the company has closed in the wake of the One Big Beautiful Bill that defunded it.
Both Planned Parenthood facilities in Louisiana will close their doors effective September 30, making it so the state with be free of the abortion business.
Notably, the New Orleans facility was constructed with the stated goal of becoming a regional abortion center, intending to perform nearly 2,844 abortions per year. With Louisiana banning abortions, babies across the state are protected and that goal was not achieved.
The abortion giant operated in the state for 40 years before the announcement.
“This is not a decision we wanted to make,” said Melaney Linton, the president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, adding that “political warfare” on the nonprofit by its opponents forced the closures.

In her statement, Linton blamed the political push against the radical abortion business for the closure of the clinics in New Orleans and Baton Rouge.
“Anti-reproductive health lawmakers obsessed with power and control have spent decades fighting the concept that people deserve to control their own bodies,” Linton said. “These extremists have done everything they can to ‘defund’ Planned Parenthood, dismantle public health infrastructure, and block patients from the care they rely on. This cruelty and failed leadership are the reasons we are here today.”
But Benjamin Clapper, Executive Director of Louisiana Right to Life, celebrated the news in comments to LifeNews.
“Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry are leaving Louisiana. But the pro-life movement is here to stay. We will always love and serve both mom and baby,” he said.
He continued:
“Planned Parenthood is a national abortion business that has long sought to bring its abortion agenda to Louisiana. Today’s announcement is further indication that their priority has always been abortion and their profit margins rather than helping women. Planned Parenthood could easily remain in Louisiana to provide healthcare to women if it just chose to stop performing abortions. But their focus is always more abortion. As they leave, we know that women will continue to have access to healthcare in Louisiana, whether for comprehensive needs or when facing an unplanned pregnancy.”
According to its latest annual report, Planned Parenthood committed over 400,000 abortions across the nation. Additionally, it has spent over $1 million in Louisiana and Texas to transport women to other states for abortions, while aggressively promoting dangerous abortion pills by mail. Meanwhile, its non-abortion health services have continued to decline nationwide—even as abortion numbers increase.
Louisiana Right to Life affirms its ongoing commitment to supporting women facing unplanned pregnancies. With more than 30 pregnancy resource centers statewide, along with numerous public and private healthcare providers, women have access to compassionate care, medical services, and real support.

Erica Inzina, J.D., Policy Director of Louisiana Right to Life, added
“We want every woman to know that she is not alone. There is hope, and there is help available throughout Louisiana. Life-affirming options exist, and we are here to walk alongside women every step of the way.”
As Planned Parenthood exits Louisiana, Louisiana Right to Life urges the public to remain vigilant.
Clapper concluded: “The pro-life movement is not going anywhere. We must continue to protect vulnerable lives and support mothers and families. We thank all those who have prayed, worked, and given tirelessly to make this day a reality. This is your victory, and most importantly, it’s a victory for life.”
