The man allegedly behind a deadly crash that claimed the lives of a mother and her 11-year-old child is not even supposed to be in the United States.
The suspect behind the reported crime has been identified as Raul Luna-Perez, a 43-year-old illegal alien who is currently being charged with “two counts of vehicular homicide and assault by auto,” according to Fox News. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer against him and issued a press release, which revealed he is no stranger to the law.
“He was arrested twice on charges of DUI in March and April of this year, and in June 2023, he was arrested for simple domestic violence,” the Fox article explains.
An investigation into the latest, tragic crash revealed that the man was allegedly driving his Dodge Durango in the opposite lane of travel at the time of the collision. This created a head-on impact with the victim’s Nissan Sentra. The woman and her daughter, who had been sitting in the front passenger seat, died in the crash. Another girl, also 11 years old, was taken to the Monmouth Medical Center, where she is listed in serious but stable condition.
“The two passengers in Luna-Perez’s vehicle were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital and released,” Fox added. “The prosecutor’s office added that the first responders reported that Luna-Perez showed signs of impairment. He was transported to an area hospital, where his blood was drawn pursuant to a court-authorized warrant.”
Meanwhile, ICE has already gotten the ball rolling on removal proceedings.
“Luna-Perez entered the U.S. illegally on an unknown date, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS),” the article reports. “ICE blamed New Jersey Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy’s sanctuary policies for allowing Luna-Perez to be released into American communities.”
“Governor Murphy and his sanctuary policies released this serial criminal into New Jersey communities,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “Now, this innocent family is shattered by their failed leadership. President Trump and Secretary Noem will continue to do everything in their power to remove these criminal illegal aliens before they destroy more lives.”
But a spokesman for Governor Murphy is singing a different tune.
“The Governor believes that Mr. Luna-Perez, who has been arrested multiple times for DUI and domestic violence, should not have been allowed behind the wheel and should have already been deported due to his previous dangerous criminal activity.”
In the state of New Jersey, driving under the influence (DUI) is treated as a traffic offense rather than a criminal one.
