A federal appellate court has just okayed the restrictions that a lower court put on the Trump administration’s effort to remove illegal immigrants from Los Angeles, California.
Breitbart News reports that the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals released its decision in the matter on Friday.
Democrats are celebrating the ruling.
Mayor Karen Bass is celebrating an activist court ruling about immigration raids even though it will have zero impact on mass deportations.
As DHS said, “We are going to continue doing what we’re doing.”

“We agree”
Fox11 provides the backstory of the case.
Per the outlet:
The appeal stems from a lawsuit filed July 2 by SoCal residents, workers and advocacy groups alleging the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is operating a program of “abducting and disappearing” community members using unlawful arrest tactics, then confining detainees in illegal conditions while denying access to attorneys.
A lower court ruled against the Trump administration, claiming that the removals had been based on people’s race and language, among other things. It, accordingly, told the Trump administration that it has to have reasonable suspicion that someone is in the country illegally before detaining and potentially removing them.
Now, an appellate court has mostly affirmed that ruling.
The appellate court wrote:
We agree with the district court that, in the context of the Central District of California, the four enumerated factors at issue — apparent race, ethnicity, speaking Spanish or speaking English with an accent, particular location and type of work, even when considered together — describe only a broad profile and do not demonstrate reasonable suspicion for any particular stop.
“This is a victory for…”
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is celebrating the ruling.
She said:
This a victory for the rule of law and for the City of Los Angeles. The Temporary Restraining Order that has been protecting our communities from immigration agents using racial profiling and other illegal tactics when conducting their cruel and aggressive enforcement raids and sweeps will remain in place for now
The Trump administration, at the time of this writing, has not released a statement on the decision.
The Trump administration, of course, is not going to give up on the situation that easily. More legal moves are expected.
In fact, the case will now head back to the lower court for another hearing, which is scheduled to take place in September.
